Would League work in S.A, T.A.S, W.A, and N.T now or in the future?

we are the ones with a team in the JB cup which the nrl or arl or nswrl or someone is trying to rush into the NSW cup. would be nice if theyd give us some goddamn money but. tickets to the nrl game and the trial over here are like $25-30 a head, and thats the best the warl can do them since its costing us so much to have the games. how do they expect to pull a decent crowd with that sh!t

"The Rams' initial home ground was Adelaide Oval, a round park that had been used for cricket and Aussie Rules for over a century. Throughout the first year they had a average home ground attendance of 15,330, the fourth highest of the Super League teams and fifth highest of all 22 teams in both competitions" Wikipedia Also kerrod Walters, Kevin Campion, Tony Iro were 3 internationals playing for them.

There is a common perception that the Rams and Reds were phenomenal failures who went tits up after years of being driven into the dirt. Its just not true. They were only around for 2 (Rams) and 3 (Reds) seasons at a very volatile time of the game. Neither team had much on-field success in terms of making finals or anything, but it they were never spooners either. As Deadly pointed out, their year one crowds weren't too shabby.

For teams that were set up with no foundation whatsoever, they started out pretty well, so there was at least a novelty value 10 years ago. Now that things are being done on a long term basis where the franchise is built from the ground up slowly bringing in lower grade sides building up for a bid into the National comp, they'll be able to support themselves. There will also be a decent chunk of people who have been able to watch their team grow from nothing to the NRL's newest Club. These nuts will be the foundation to their supporter group.

Done right, it can work. But doing it right takes a long time. Gotta be realistic and that means being patient.

norfolk island
Wouldn't be enough people on Norfolk to field a team let alone watch it.

we used to have a comp with 3 teams called blues, greens and reds.you can guess the colours! each week 2 of the teams would play while the other team ran the lines, cooked the barbie and sold piss.pretty much the whole island would be down there watching(or fighting on the sidelines).

one of the funnier stories i heard involved a norfolk rep team that went to kiwi to play in the sth pacific cup.
the sth pacific cup had teams from most of the south pac islands plus a nz maori team and koori team.

in one game they had to play the nz maori's and one of our centre's(who had played for kiwi u19's-against a young et!)was looking at the maori team sheet with our other centre and saw richie blackmores name.
"i better take him cause i've played against him before and hes damn good.you can take the other guy"(who was a young bloke no-one had heard of called rubin wiki!)

needless to say we got hammered!

footnote. tim sheens(then canberra coach) was at this south pacific cup and signed wiki on the strength of his performance in the cup.

I would like to see a team in Sunshine Coast, Albury Wodonga, PNG(some travel consession would have to be sorted tho), Adelaide (again) and i think a team up in the Whitsunday area, perhaps Airlie Beach would have potential.

I agree totally.

IMO expansion is integral in the NRL's survival

THe Silvertails pulled out of their feeder club in N.S.W (don't know who) and in 2009 the "Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles" will be entering the Wizard Cup in Queensland and they are in for the long haul. The location of the team covers a large area of passionate rugby league supporters as the sunshine coast stems from Mooloolaba to Caboolture, north and south, and from the coast to Nambour in the west. Approx 100 kilometres. As there is only the Gold Coast and Brisbane as representatives in the N.R.L and a massive untapped resource sitting north of Brisbane, Manly have pulled a massive swifty by involving the local community in support of the local club and in essense the Silvertails themselves. If another team were able to trump them with admission to the N.R.L somehow, there would be a long term viable club.
