and on winning culture, i think it plays a really small part in whether a team is succcessful or not. the teams that win comps have terrific sides with top quality players. the likes of the broncos, storm etc have about 6 or 7 genuine star players.
i cant remember a time where cronulla have had any more than 4 max players who fit into that category.
the winning culture is a bit of a myth....the winning teams have the best players who outclass the rest. because when all said, the winning culture is more a mentallity. and NO player goes out without the intentioin of winning.

good point

I disagree though

I am more inclined to think a champion team will beat a team of champions

Mayby,

We have lost so many players who where at coffs that weekend

I cant name names. as I D K exactly. But I have a feeling its a good chance the players involved due to % is gone now.

IMO that is generally true however in the world of professional Rugby League I think the more individual talent in key positions will most often win through. How many times have we seen these freakishly talented players pull games out the bag when nothing was on.

fascinating insight

Its an old saying my dad once told me.

I beleive it.

Look at the tigers when they won the comp

They had a team under the salary cap, and apart from Benji no rep players. Come to think of it I D K if benji was a rep player @ the time

maybe....but i in NO wya think melboure have a "winning culture" they have a team jam packed with the NRLs top talent.
I'll use a non NRL example here. i follow Liverpool in the EPL. now they are the most successful side in english football history, yet havnt won the title sine 1990. now the fact they have been the most successful, would indicate a "winning culture", would it not?
the reason they havnt won the title in 18 seasons now is simply down to lack of top talent to challenge the like of man utd, arsenal and chelsea. it has nothing to do with a pre-conceived notion of club culture

yeah you see it all the time.

I think your point is more valid in the modern game than in past years.
I tend to think in years gone past determination and hart won games,

These days its more about juggling salary cap restrictions and injurys and rep responsibilities.

There are so many factors involved.

All are why I started this thread

The game has changed so much also. The rule changes over the past 10 years and the advent of refereeing by Video has taken a lot of the great game away. Now it seems the games are won and lost in the halves and that is why everyone is scrambling to get the best half pairing they can from limited pickings available.

You need a good team all over the park,

The halves cant do their jobs without a quality forward pack working hard.

Games are won and lost IMO around the ruck and with the forwards.

Good backlines put the cream on top of the forwards hard work.

When the boys are fair we are now winning the close ones, when they are bad they tear ya heart out. I cant wait to see them get it all together and for a consistent number of matches.
