There was a funny convo I had with an old Bears die-hard at Leichhardt the other day.

It was howling a gale and he says to me... "You Sharks will win this today, you guys understand playing in the wind."

I reckon there is a fair few people who live between Botany Bay and Malacoota who understand what it's like to live and build in very high wind areas.

Correct. Considering it faces directly south, you would expect it to be specified to withstand a "worst case scenario" of hurricane strength wind.

Regardless, if the basic engineering design was poor, that would not necessarily matter, a bit like building a castle on quicksand

People said you couldn't build a castle on quicksand... I did anyway and it sunk into the sand. So I built another one!...

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

The thing about all of this that I don't get is the engineering side of it.

Surely the required wind rating at that location would have been huge?

If anything, you would have expected the specifications would have had to be over-engineer it.

Fitz, possibly with the wind at the right (wrong) direction & velocity, the roof could have started resonating like a continuous wave up & back & continually shaking the crap out of it.

Have you ever seen that video of the bridge that did it - it was amazing how it was rising & falling many metres like a big wave.

There cant possibly be a physics or engineering student who has not seen this video
