First the team collapses now the Stand......what next !!!!!!!!!!

Apparently the two ends of the roof started to buckle and one of the main beams is in danger of snapping.

The new stand was made with 40% imported steel from China, If you look Sth of the stadium you can see BHP Steelworks, Should of been 100% Australian.

See what happens when you go for imports rather than the home grown locals.

I reckon they should rename it "Gone With The WINd" Stadium.

Living down this way, I find it amusing the most common comment about it was the fact it wasn't 100% Australian steel. I would think the most important issue was the fact no one has been killed or injured. Doesn't matter whether it was local or imported. it would still bloody hurt either way

The thing about all of this that I don't get is the engineering side of it.

Surely the required wind rating at that location would have been huge?

If anything, you would have expected the specifications would have had to be over-engineer it.

It isn't completely finished as yet, so maybe that had something to do with it.

They are sending a specialist engineer from Sydney to carry out an investigation.

I can see the manufactures blaming the engineers and the engineers blaming manufactures

Correct. Considering it faces directly south, you would expect it to be specified to withstand a "worst case scenario" of hurricane strength wind.

Regardless, if the basic engineering design was poor, that would not necessarily matter, a bit like building a castle on quicksand

Probably some crap steel from china and not being completed as well probably hasn't helped but you would have thought they would have thought about the wind problems, they were saying up this way that one of the main beams has snapped some one is going to be up for a few $$$ I would think its also good no one got hurt.

I have seen crap steel many times and is a common complaint with most tooling and equipment from china as well bad castings porous etc mill some of this stuff and you cant believe they get away with but people want cheap so that what you get is crap.

I purchased some cheap bar to work on my lathe yep it was from china it actually had like a grit all the way through it as well as being porous in parts anyway that's what you get for going cheap and saving a buck, it ended up costing more in tooling to complete the job then I made .

So never again I only use the good stuff and spend the $$$ shame shire steel isn't a bit closer Id rather give them my money.

Oh come on - whoever heard of strong winds in the "gong" region???
