Will had a good game, lots of important plays and nice touches but could have he done a bit better on the first Holmes try? I know Val put on a step but Will seems to have a habit of completely missing/over running/over reading when a tough tackle./contact is required.

It looked worse than just being side stepped , ran right past him and just hung an arm out, seen it so many times that sorta effort from Will. Maybe he just over run it but looked kinda weak attempt
Just went back and watched it - Will was in full sprint towards other sideline and Val cut back inside. He effectively stepped behind Will. Did about as much as he could imo

He is safe under the high ball but we need more. Talking to Cowboys fans with drinkwater they hate the inconsistency.

Some of his efforts just lacking. We need to start our sets with more than a casual hitup

We missing that X factor points from nothing. Like Barba was and hammer is now. Genuine game breaker

Don’t think he had a bad game, but where is he in attack??? Great attacking teams have the great fullback.

I’ve been nothing but a Hynes is a 7 fan but I think his best position could be suited to fullback now. Get him wider in attack and making less game playing decisions. Get him running it and throwing his harbour pass off a sweep I think could be deadly

Hynes to FB. He can pop up wherever he likes then.

WK can go...I really don't care, he can just go.

He’s a sweep playing fullback. It doesn’t work against Penrith. He was there, just rendered ineffective due to them defending man on man

Massive credit to Panthers defence, probably best in the comp again so hard for anyone to attack well.

To be fair though Kennedy hasn’t really been that effective with his sweeping for a couple years now. Back in 2021 or 2022 he was unreal at it. Not sure what’s happened but it doesn’t seem to be effective anymore

He was decent tonight

I know some of you hate $$$ being mentioned but we are getting from him about what we are paying him.

Very fair.

I personally think it’s due to it being the same shape and structure we ran 3 years ago

If this is the case, then either our coach can’t get him involved enough (and that’s poor tactics) or Will needs to develop more of an attacking game (skills) to be an asset for us.

Maybe we need to add more variation to our game plans to help get Will into the attacking side of our game more. Otherwise all he is good for is 1 aspect of our defensive strategy (defusing bombs) and that’s it.

If it’s not already obvious, our game plan is centred around turning people under & shirt balls to generate quick play the balls and condensed defensive lines to enable the sweeping play.

It’s probably no surprise it’s ineffective in finals where the referee is more receptive to a longer play the ball speed

I think we have changed our game play away from him
But nobody is in a position in our squad to do better
For now he was the best option - he needs to adapt and advance how he impacts the game if he will find the jersey in jeopardy.

His high level of safety will be greatly valued by his coach though so he won’t be jumped as easy as some think

“he needs to adapt and advance how he impacts the game”

Isn’t that what I said?

“Will needs to develop more of an attacking game (skills) to be an asset for us”.

Same same but different

I’m with you, even though he was getting hammered his kick returns were decent tonight.

But in attack he does go missing and it’s a killer no doubt about it

Yep, he’s had all year and still hasn’t adapted

Yeah 100% no doubt, especially in the big games. I maintain we need to upgrade his position, but there’s not too much available on the market. Hopefully one of our younger guys come through and kick on.

But I didnt think that he had a bad game or anything like some on here are suggesting - just not at the level we need to do anything

Was happy with him in defence but he does seem to over run trying to tackle the attacker when defending broken play.
His timing does seem off.
