Mitch Brown anyone?
HE has established himself as the Bulldogs’ ‘Mr Reliable’ but winger Mitch Brown may be lost to the club next season.
Statistics show only four wingers in the NRL have made fewer errors than Brown this season — and such coolness under pressure has led to half-a-dozen clubs expressing interest in signing the Cronulla junior for 2015.
“I am off contract and love the Bulldogs — they are the best club I’ve been with,” says the former Sharks and Wests Tigers player.
“But I have been in grade for nine years now and I need to find the best deal for myself — I know, like every player, my time in the game is limited.
“I may not be the most exciting player in the world but I’m safe and Des keeps picking me every week, so I must be doing something right.”
Brown’s manager, Gavin Orr, says rival clubs are showing interest.
“I’ve spoken to Souths, the Sharks, Melbourne, the Dragons and Cowboys and they all know he can play,” Orr says. “Mitch may not have the high profile of some of the flashy wingers out there but at the end of the day he gets the job done and is safe under pressure.”
Brown, 26, missed three games early in the season because of an ankle injury but was brought straight back into the top grade once he proved himself fit.
“We have plenty of depth in the backline, so I’m grateful I get a start every week,” he says. “There is a great culture at the Dogs and I want to stay a part of it if I can.”
