robson is the only natural number 7 at the club with chad

the rest are out of position

Glad you agree.

The way I see it, Kelly was always 6 when playing with Graham and Townsend was always 7 when playing with Graham.

That to me says that in the eyes of Flanagan (and myself), Kelly is the most 5/8 like of the three players and Townsend is the most half back like. Graham is somewhere in between.

I think Kelly is a 5/8 that's a true back, so would be more at home in the centres than the back row.
I think Graham is a lock / back rower that can play 5/8 and has utility value.
I think Townsend is a half back only.
I think Robson is a half back / hooker, though I don't know enough about him to say whether or not he'd be any good at 5/8.

Townsend MAY become the best half we have.

To say he is now, I'm sorry I can't agree with that.

but if it has been said that 6 & 7 have essentially the same roles, just opposite sides of the field, how can anyone be out of position at 7 if we have so many 6's?

I reckon he was better over all than Kelly in 2011. I also think he was a better half than Graham, though Graham was a better player.

thats a good point, and it should be noted i voted for kelly in the pole to partner our marquee signing (small pot shot)

that said, if we wanted to strictly play a "natural" 7 with him, jeff robson gets my vote

so you wouldnt be dissappointed if robson runs out in the 7 in round 1. You were pretty vocal you didnt want him there a week or 2 ago

The only problem i have with Robson or Townsend being the 7 is they wouldnt be considered in our top 13 players and we would be restricting graham and kelly gametime.
I would hope we have gardner, kelly, carney, graham on for the full 80. De gois as our hooker and Robson on the bench to replace him. Give Townsend a year in nsw cup see if he improves

I rate Kelly and Townsend about equally as players. However it's a situation like the Tupou / Bukuya one where them being both somewhat similar and with limited spots in the team means you find it hard to pick both. I'm that way with Carney and Kelly, and Carney wins that battle.

you really dont understand do you.... and you're doing your hsc?

let me break it down for you... slowly

i voted albert kelly, i want albert kelly and todd carney in the halves, and i dont care what numbers are on their backs

but

if we are going with the mentality that albert wade and todd are 6's in terms of halves, then jeff robson is the choice for 7, because, imo, chad is not a first grade footballer, and imo he should play a year in nsw cup... you can quote me on that, probably 1000 time

please quote where i have said i am comfortable with robson at half back?
you wont be able to, because i am not... do you understand now?

I dont think chad would do us much good in the number 7 though. So just put carney in the 7 then pick your best 5/8 which would be graham/kelly but to fit both in the team kelly would go 5/8 and graham go to lock or second row.
