Adam O'Brien not in the running -

SHARKS COACHING CONTENDER BARRED

Cronulla are holding off appointing a new coach until Shane Flanagan’s appeal against suspension is heard.

But there is one less horse in the race to replace him, with the Roosters barring assistant coach Adam O’Brien from officially applying for the position.

In most cases, clubs allow assistant coaches to go for a top grade spot if one becomes available.

But given the Roosters have only just signed O’Brien from Melbourne, their stance is understandable.

I'm presuming it's in his contract that he can't talk to other clubs but it's a pretty ******* thing to do. Yeah I get that he just joined them but it's not that often a HC role opens up, OK maybe a bit more frequently lately but he's not going to take the HC role at the Roosters, so they'll lose him eventually.

**** contract if he hasn’t got a get out clause for a head coaching gig written in it.

I think it's pretty fair, if he's been assistant at his current club for over a year, let him interview for a head coach position if one comes up.

But seeing roosters only just signed him, and they're about to start pre season, I'm with the roosters wit not letting him talk.

Pity, he was my favourite

If Obrien can't 'apply' then just invite him for an interview and if we really think he is the best candidate offer him the job and he can tell the Roosters to either let him go or he'll sit out.
That's the way the NRL works these days...

We could interview him, leak it to Rothfield, and then give the job to someone else ;)

I think the longer we take to make a decision, the more likely John Morris gets the gig.
