Yep for sure.

I heard Paul Green interviewed once where he was talking about the Cowboys forwards.

He said that one of the reasons for their pack's success is that they aren't all the same build. You need to tackle a big tall guy differently to a shorter stocky guy. Having the different body shapes running at you is exhausting and requires a little bit more concentration.

Thanks mate - answered my question from post #16 :)

Is Gal any chance of being reliably fit for the nex game?

Any chance - yes.

From the interview with Wade Graham today (14/9):

"He's good mate. He started moving a bit better at the start of this week. It probably would have been touch and go again if we had to play an elimination final this week. I don't think he would have missed it, but it just gives him a little bit of extra time to rest that back of his, get moving, get back into a little bit of a rhythm and then be right for the next game".

From the injury report on the Sharks web site from yesterday arvo:

Gallen was again restricted to light duties today as he continues his recovery from a back injury suffered in innocuous circumstances last week. Feeling somewhat stiff and sore after field and gym sessions on Tuesday, Gallen’s back condition flared up and became increasingly worse as the week went on, forcing his withdrawal from the game against the Raiders. With the Sharks having the weekend off, medical and coaching staff are optimistic that with time and rest the skipper will be fit and ready to go by the following Friday.

As for prop Sam Tagataese, the status of the Sharks prop remains largely unknown, although the player himself is positive about his chances of being available for the teams’ next match.
“It’s coming along okay, I think I might be right, then it will be up to the coach,” Tagataese said earlier today.

Joseph Paulo, the other injured Sharks top grader was hard at work in the gym today, with a return to full training unlikely before the week of the Grand Final.

So I would say based on the above that we will see the following team named.

13. Gallen
-
14. Heighington
15. Beale
16. Tagataese
17. Bukuya
18. Capewell

.. and that Capewell, Beale and Tagataese will all take the warm-up before Flanno makes a decision.

Hey Guys,
Great thread.

I was down the club yesterday and this is what I learned.

Gals in trouble. He is slowly improving but is a long way from being 100%. We have to hope he comes good because regardless of his condition he will still play.
Paulo is done. He has a bad injury, forget about him.

JSL name is mud, the coach has never really trusted him hence his low minutes and he is currently the lowest in the pecking order. He's been selected for the jets this weekend.
Flanos gone off Beale and that strip was the nail in the coffin.
They are expecting Taga to be fit and if so he will be picked and to play similar minutes to what JSL did.
Flano loves Heighno, he wont be going anywhere.

With all this info I expect Capewell to be elevated to our bench utility. Don't forget he can easily play centre, he played there for the Jets and trialled there for us against Manly.

14. Heighno
15. Capewell.
16. Taga.
17. Bukuya.
18. Beale

I am really concerned Gal wont play, or won't be fit to play. I do hope he is good and starts improving fast....can we win without him against the cows/broncs? then he could be good for the big dance. I would definitely be taking a 4 forward bench into our next game. particularly if Gallen isn't 100% right

Prior
Ennis
Fifita
Lewis
Graham
Gallen (otherwise bukuya)

Bukuya
Capewell
Heigno
Tagatese

(JSL or Nu Brown if one of Taga or Gallen aren't fit)

I would seriously pick Nu brown over Beale at the moment. He can play half, hooker, centre if necessary. I think he is quicker, stronger and more creative in attack.
Beale just seems to have no aggression and not much strength.

Is it the end of the world if Gal is not 100%.

With a 4 forward bench there are gonna be some guys with limited minutes anyway.

Just get Gal to punch out 20-30 mins.

They wont pick Nu at this stage. Half hooker centre and lock are covered by Bird and Capewell or Beale.

As I said in my above post unless Taga doesnt come good we wont see JSL again.

The worry about Gal is that he plays well below 100%. And I mean well below. He will demand to be picked.

This is where the coach needs to put the team before any one individual, even it it's Gal. This is not some ordinary regular season game. Let's see what the coach is made of.

I dont think they could stop him playing tbh he will want to be there for his team but if he isn't 100% we don't want him there.

I'd rather a 75% gal than his replacements taga or jsl... He will be fine I rekon it's flanno ball some saying he will be right other casting doubt, no need to declare him either way till hour before kick off..

Yeah agree. If he has to play I'd be looking at bringing him off the bench and keeping his minutes short with a break at half time.

Gallen had some interesting comments on Triple M last night. He said that carrying Beale on the bench was tactical against Canberra because the Raiders are vulnerable to dummy half running and outside backs coming through the middle, getting quick play the balls and leaving guys like Paulo and Vaughn on the deck.

He said that what they wanted to do was bring a fresh Beale on, but keep Bird on the field.

I've commented on this before. This was the tactics in the wins against the Raiders and Storm through the year, but was conspicuously absent from the late season contests - which leads me to believe that Flanno has been holding his cards close to his chest. In the last game it was like a switch was flicked at about the 60 minute mark to start going through the middle, and it worked. Ditto late in the first half.

Ultimately, what this tells me is that with regard to who is picked this week, the opposition matters. I'd say there is more chance now that Beale plays than there would have been had Brisbane won last night. The Cowboys have a lot of big boppers and I could see Flanno wanting to use similar tactics late in each half.
