I also hate it when people call you Champ. The other one I hate is "pal" Also condescending and one Ray Hadley used a lot.

"Now listen pal..."

Yep, another good one.

There is also, "how are you boss!"

I get this from school students from a certain cultural background when I visit for Expos, school talks etc.
Islanders?
Not sure, hopefully not (always) used with sarcasm like champ

Sorry guys, a bit of proud Dad gloating coming up.

As some of you know, my son had his first year playing cricket in A grade - 14As. He didn't end up taking the most wickets or having the best bowling average but he opened the bowling every game against some of the best batsmen in the grade and ended up with the best economy rate in the team. Remember, in junior cricket, even A grade, nearly everyone gets to bowl.

He bowled 52 overs for the season, and conceded 193 runs at an economy rate of 3.71 per over. The nearest to him was 4.35 from someone who only bowled 43 overs for the season.

For him to do this in his first A grade season is remarkable and considering he went up two grades from last year. He's not going to play grade or Test cricket I don't think but he has enjoyed the new challenges of this season!

I should add to my gloating post that even though my son didn't take the most wickets or have the best bowling average, he was second in the wicket taking and had the 3rd best average.
Nothing wrong with being a proud dad mate!

Good on him! Sounds like he’s enjoying it and improving his game. That’s what it’s all about
