I rather put someone like Kelly in place of Robson...more dynamic really and more x-factor....compare him with Robson, Kelly can play in the halves or pretty much where ever in the backline or even hooker...Robson is good for halfback or hooker and isnt really a x-factor...

I hope some more people that were there can write their opinions on what they saw. I remember the last few years where we performed badly in trials there was no end of detailed reports on exactly how crap we were. It's a shame we don't have detailed reports on how good we were this year.

Same with twitter, it was frigging dead on the night. Even the official Sharks twitter account was only really reporting tries.

Us out of towners are very lucky we had access to the webcam + chatroom otherwise it'd be hardly anything to go off!

What do you want to know mate? Players specifics? My thoughts on the game plan we look to be using?

A player by player breakdown would be awesome, but also yeah technique, structure, just any opinions you've got.

For example I've got the impression that Townsend dominated the first half and Carney dominated the second, and this reflects in some 3-2-1 ratings I've seen. But I haven't heard much about how Graham went (as an individual) and how he partnered with Carney. Thoughts on that? Did Townsend player better than Graham?

Also it sounds like Carney was playing a genuine half back role and really excelled at it?

The thing that I was happiest to see was our urgency in defence in our own 20.

Peter Sharpe has been working heavily on that. I think if what I saw the other night is any indication of what we're about this year we're going to be a hard team to score against from the red-zone.

First half Robson and Townsend played opposite sides, robson on right and townsend on the left. They both controlled there side of the field. It was different in the second half. Carney sort of popped up on either side of the field. He pretty much controlled the pace of the play the entire time he was on the field. Graham did what he had to, i wasn't overly excited but what he showed, not much different to last year i thought. They turned alot of players inside off Carney (front rowers and second rowers). When they went wide it was the typical sweeping play out the back to gardner. Gards put a coupld of kicks in off the back of this, which i like at the start of the year. This will hopefully keep opposition teams from racing up to quick on him down the track. Frizzell ran great lines when they hit the front runner, these were off Wade's pass from memory. Carney looked really dangerous on the plays even where he turned players underneath him. He has a sharp turn of acceleration and despite the players receiving the ball everytime he did this, 1 time he is going to dumby and be around his opposing player. I think all of these plays were what lead to his 1st try where he stepped off the right and took them on for the first time. They didn't even lay a hand on him.

They looked sharp when we got quick play the balls. De Gois ran pretty much whenever he had the chance, and if gards and carney can get used to reading when he goes, we should see plenty of breaks through the middle.

Gibbs made some great reads in defence. 1 example was the old second man play to the manly winger 1st ruck out of their own end. Gibbs was up in his face before he had the chance to do too much and put us on the front foot in the set. I loved what i seen from him.

I am really confident going into this year considering we still have toups, smith, fifta and Gal to come back in!!

Awesome mate, loved reading that. Good to hear we have goal line defence again.

I reckon that was our issue last year. We didn't have goal line defence or attack! We freaking owned the middle of the field.

If we can sort those issues out it jumps us so many positions up the ladder.

In your head, rent free
good summary that, i will go a bit further indepth..

first half, robo and chad combined really well. robbo did the long kicking and hit the turf with ease. to be fair though, the manly fullback was so ****ing **** it isnt funny

chad and jeff both got repeat sets when they wanted too. morris looked good from dummy half as he only played for about 30 mins, as mark bastard wants him to.

john williams was easilly our best back, i think he was only with that team to kick goals, although the belter matt wrivght kicked from the sideline after the TC 90m try said he could of been there

feki was outstand, did alot of work from dummy half, if he had genuine pace he would be amazing

taufua and green worked there arse off, peachey was good as well

some of the unknown players really put their hand up, hassan in particular.

second half was all TC. thats it. he controlled everything. wade chipped and and de gois got us on the front foot, but it was all tc.

gibbs and ross controlled the ruck, and controlled it well. Friz was the pick of the second row, and if bukuya has another fragile injury, or a quiet newcastle trial, friz has to start.

pom and best were, well, pom and best. no mistakes, no threatening runs. pom was described as being "great" for not dropping a ball. that sums up his game

gardz supported well, and we used alot of second phase play, especially down the left. if we use gal as a decoy it will be try central down there

mills and wright did **** all as well, but mills took an intercept on a great defensive read, following a poor defensive read by pom.

mills out paced stewart and oldfield, they both gave up.

both had a red hot crack at TC, oldfield brought him down before the line. if that went upstairs, i dont think it was a try, i think it was a second effort, but i dont wanna argue over it.

in summary as well, all manly fans are fagots. all of them

Sounds like Carney is that far ahead of our other halves that we should trial all halves with him and let him decide who partners him!
