I think i is time the NRL removes this comp alltogether. each year they are rejecting at least 12 players. how can a player be washed up at the age of 20 so mny are going to rugby where thry have 5 open age grades, leagur has one grade

I think the idea was a good one. To have a youth competition. It seems that they are the future of the NRL so they wanted to showcase them.

But lack of experience is hurting the NYC. I think maybe have the same concept, But have say, 5 players, 2 forwards, 1 half & 2 backs that are over 20 to play as well. Each team will have 5 older / more experienced players in the team also.

Our Team would look something like for example...

1. Nathan Stapleton
2. Greg Davis
3. Ricky Leutele
4. Elih Baillie
5. Luke Covell (c)
6. Albert Kelly
7. Chad Townsend
8. Duncan Reilly
9. Stuart Flanagan
10. Jake Anlezark
11. Tyson Frizell
12. Adam Cuthbertson
13. Kyle O'Donnell
INTERCHANGE
14. Mathew Wright
15. Adam Goode
16. Tyrone Peachey
17. Rodney Moefaauo

I would change it back to U/23's.... Then you would have..

- NRL
- NSW Cup
- Toyota Cup (U/23's)
- SG Ball (U/18's)
- Harold Matthews (U/16's)
- Park Footy (18's & Senior)

This means that if a player is not NRL quality by the age of 20 which is what they are expected to be like the way it is, rather the club gets until they are 23 to decide whether they are worth keeping. Allows late bloomers to still make their mark. Would surely raise the quality of the games as more quality players to chose from (eg. Stapo still playing)

I agree, 23's and keep it the second best of the comp.

NYC needs to be marketed like college sports in America or something like that IMO.

Also I think you should get a discount on your ticket if you show up to watch NYC before a game. An early-bird special of sorts.

Yes that is the way it used to work. You would go to Shark park watch the under 23's, reserve grade then 1st grade. The good thing about that is you still had good older blokes at the club playing reggies who could then keep the younger blokes in line.
Giving blokes at 18,19,20 lots of cash and lots of free time leads to more issues than is solves.

To think that someone who is 21 and playing reggies is washed up, is silly. I am not sure why the NRL decided that under 20's was a good feeder system into the NRL, reggies was working fine until then. It has been shown that over the last 3 years not many under 20's players are ready for full time NRL, especially forwards.

Don't get me started!

The whole structure of Rugby League in Australia is a complete joke and has become so completely illogical, inefficient and unmanageable at the hands of the ARL, NSWRL & QRL.

What do you expect when the lunatics have taken over the asylum. If you want to see what the real problems with Rugby League in this country are, just go have a look at the people who are on the Boards of the ARL, NSWRL & QRL.

I believe they will be doing a review at the end of this season, and may bring in the under 23's rule from next season or the one after. Something along those lines was said at the start of the year breifing.

I think the amount of pressure they throw on young blokes in the under 20's is ridiculous. Someone already mentioned that people are starting to call 21 year olds washed up. The likes of Matt Wright, Albert Kelly and Nathan Stapleton are thrown under the bus at the young age of 20, or younger. It needs a review, and so does the NSW cups

Been saying it for years and have 3 games played on match day
