Watching today's game and any other game for that matter,
you can see the determination on the players faces, they are out there giving there best.

Some things come off and some don't.

As we know the bad trot we are going through at the moment, my support for them gets stronger.
Because I believe we will come through this period stronger.

As a supporter for as long as I can remember I could not tun my back on them.

Just by talking to past greats from our club gives you a lift, anyone who goes to Shark park and See's a past or present player, go and have a chat,

It's all part of the Sharks spirit which can never be taken away.

I think it's about time this thread got another run. It's amazing how short some peoples memories are. It seems that every time we have a bad run and get a flogging, it's time for all the knives to come out; calling for the coaches head and bagging the players.

It's time to make a decision; do you want to be a "supporter" or do you just want to be a "fan"?

As the term implies, supporters "support" the team, through thick and thin, good times and bad. Make no mistake, we are going through tough times and have been for awhile. But, if I can drag out an old cliche, "When the going get's tough, the tough get going".

I have no issue with people raising constructive criticism after a loss like we had on Friday night. Just as long as those same people offer up some form of remedial action and give credit when it's due.

Like I have said before, this is not "SuperCoach", we have the playing roster we have. When we have injuries, we are going to suffer - especially when it's Gal. But add to that Bukuya, Snowden, Kelly, and Smith and we are in trouble.

Even Phil Gould, whom I can't stand, has given our team a "pass" for their performance this year and commented on the Sunday Roast that we are going to struggle through times of injury but overall we have performed well.

Of course I will get the usual bagging for "accepting mediocrity" and being all "sunshine and lollipops" despite this being nothing of the sort. I expect every player who puts on our jersey to bleed for those colours, no less. But we are going to get outclassed sometimes, sad but true.

How quickly we forget the committment Flanno showed to this Club in raising funds for the High Performance Centre off his own bat. We forget that he got us a victory over a full strength Dragons team at the peak of their powers in Round 2. We should have beaten front-runners Manly in a game that was stolen from us by inept refereeing. We also went toe-to-toe with the Storm at home.

Anyhow, there you have it. I fully expect to get flamed for this so get to it ****er's FLAME ON!

What I don't get is the bagging of Flano. Look at what Flano has to work with as the core of the coaching staff. Even Bennett has specialist that surround him and all we have is the bare minimum. Our assistant coach (2IC) is going to the dragons as a Video Analysis next year. Repeat, Video Analysis. So all this about Flano is unfounded considering his support staff.

I posted after the 1st round Canberra game that we had more attack in those first 10 minutes then we have had in the previous 2 years and that giving our coach the extension from 1 year to 2 years before a tackle was made was the exactly the right thing to do. Really who could fix the **** fight that was left when Flano took over, in 1 year ? Bennett ? Doubt it.

We were predicted by all the so called experts to get the wooden spoon this year. Currently we are on 11th. 4 place improvement from last year. If we keep improving at that rate, well next year we are finals bound. This with the nurturing and development of the juniors coming through we could just be anything.

In summary, Flano, yeah I reckon he's going good with what he has inherited and the obvious flaws within our squad. I look forward to him being our coach for years to come.

couldn't agree more I love flanno as a coach and hope he is here for a long time. He has made a few mini mistakes but it is his first year and is probably taking on the hardest job in rugby league.

I'd love for Flanno to meet up with Ewan McEnzie and talk about what he's done with a team like the QLD Reds - they've had promise - didn't have the $$ to recruit or keep players - got a groove going - got tough - turned it all around .. wouldn't hurt. A champion team should always beat a team of champions - unless its the storm and they've over paid everyone

The Psychology of most Sharks "supporters" is to bag them for being bad and be sceptical when they win. You have to have a big set to be a real Sharks supporter.

Most people are sheep and follow the crowd. If your follow the Sharks you are going to get a bagging, even in the shire! In order to counter that you have to keep yourself small so that you don't stand out. You can't get to high when they win and you need flame them when they lose. Most supporters are not thick skinned enough to stand up no matter what happens. It's hard, real hard to support the Sharks. Only and hand full of people can do it with any real class. We get bagged for not winning a comp. We get bagged for not having any money. We get bagged for losing games.

I can fully understand why people who say they are fans turn on the team the way they do. They need to protect their fragile self esteem. Unless you have alot of inner strength you are going to struggle to support the Sharks. We have nothing to fall back. No premierships, no "glory days". All we have is ourselves and our own belief.

It is easier to be a sheep and bag the team like every other fan does. At times it does seem like the easy thing to do. You need to be very resilient, very loyal to support the Sharks no matter what.

Iron most people can't do it. Let people come on here and say what they will. The less attention which is paid to them, the less they will continue to say. I know why people do it. Don't take it to heart. Keep up the good fight Iron.:cheers

The Titans game was the best live Sharks game I've ever seen. It was the highlight of the season and these last few crap performances still haven't tainted it. I'm sort of immune now.

:cheers You summed up my feelings 2 a Tee.
In fact i think you hit the nail right on the head.

It takes a special breed of supporter to admit they follow the sharks.
Iron is an extreme example. but To name just one, is folly on my part.
People are people , supporters are supporters. Meaning everyone who
holds this team in high regard will act proportionally different depending
on their level of emotional attachment or to a major extent their psychology.
Everyone deals with hardship and disappointment in their own unique way.

Absolutely fantastic post Lumpy.

Couldn't have put that any better myself.

Absolutely spot on the money.

The thing is, I am proud to admit to being a Sharks supporter.

As everyone on here who knows me personally, I have followed this club since I was a little kid and if people bring up the no premierships thing, I just say I support the club because I have since I was kid and I love the club dearly and I know when we do win a premiership it will be the GREATEST day in the game's history.

I was watching a Comedy Central segment by American comedian Todd Barry the other night.

He does a bit about people booing and it made me laugh because the psychology behind it quite hilarious.

So, I'm on stage and I say that I went to The University of Florida and this guy in the crowd yells out "Boo!"

I ask him "Why would you boo that?"

He says "I'm from Florida State... "

I love that mentality,

“Boo! You went to a different school than I did. I want everyone going to the same school. One school. 140 million students. Or I go ‘boo!’ "

"I am the least tolerant human being on Earth."

"What’d you have for dinner tonight? Chinese food. I had Japanese. Boo!"

"You like Triskets. I like Wheat Thins. Boo!"

"You like regular Starburst fruits chews. I like the tropical. Boo!”

I guess a parallel I see is in sport and the fans and supporters. People tend to not only love there own team but also to rubbish or "boo" other teams. The logic behind that would see there being one team that everybody follows... but then, it wouldn't be much of a competition would it?

It's just a damn shame when people feel the necessity to boo their own team. I guess that is more of an indication of what is going on inside of them than anything else though.

I don't understand it but hey, there's nothing so queer as folk.
