Manu. Big coin.

Sources speaking on the condition of anonymity given negotiations haven’t commenced said the Dragons would be prepared to pay up to $1.2 million a year over four years in a bid to make the transfer happen.

Wow. Fullback money.
He'll go well in the centre's for them...

Manu could have got big dollars and played fullback at the Warriors before re-signing with the Roosters. Can't see him leaving the Roosters anytime soon.

Flanno's going to do his best to impression of the Dolphins circa 2022.

Me neither tbh, but it’ll be fun watching Flanno try.

Centre is the one position they actually have covered fairly well
Suli is pretty solid, Lomax is a gun when switched on. Swapping their sides of the field last season threw at least Lomax off a bit, maybe Suli too.

They'd really need Manu to stick at FB
Or they may need him at 6 at this rate...

No way Manu will go to the dead v for any amount of cash and to be coached by flanno lol
Yeah I'd be shocked if he took any amount of money to go there.

He seems content to take unders to be a strong centre at a (usually) high performing club. Even when he does get named at 1 or 6 all he has to do is lean into his running game and know if they lose they can just say oh well we didn't have Teddy. Only time he has stepped up to take some serious responsibility is for NZ in last World Cup and NZ didn't make final.
He doesn't want that heat of being Dragons marquee big$ man.

Are we the least active club in transfers this year? I'd say so. That presser from Fitz at the end of our loss to the chooks was so telling IMO. He talked about the team learning a lot in that game about what it takes to compete at the highest level. Combine that with our transfer inactivity and the fact Fitz wanted to sign with a club that didn't need a rebuild and it's pretty clear he has a philosophy that the requirements for NRL success can be taught, so once you have a competeitive team, stick with it and keep working toward that point.

I personally love this approach because I've always believed that the top 200 nrl players are all basically as good as each other in terms of natural ability. The rest comes down to effort, coaching, club culture etc.

I tend to agree but having BIG Brown paper bags don't hurt either when you want to entice the majority of that top 200 to your club

You would think though, that he would learn from all the success he had at Roosters - which was achieved by keeping a core group together then bringing in some hired 'guns'. Maloney, Carney, Cronk, etc - He spent 90% of his career at a club that had success because of smart recruitment.

On what experience is he basing his current plan on? Not saying I disagree, but would be nice to have someone new to be excited about next year.

Like Kaufusi last year?

Need to have the right marquee blokes available to take a swing at them. Can't get a Hynes every year. Even the roosters can't, having struggled to replace Cronk despite all the spending power in the world.

I 100% agree with the bolded bit, that would be great, I just don't think it was really there.
Most of the possible signings for next year either weren't realistic (too pricey, don't suit needs) or aren't actually that much to get excited about.

2024 gaines, per Zero Tackle
Baker, Sasagi, Smithies, Weekes, Crichton, Curran, Salmon, Taaffe, Xerri, Averillo, Farnworth, Flegler, Keeley, Palasia, Brooks, A James, Jax Paulo, Talau, Waddell, Harris-Tevita, Tuivasa-Sheck, J Cartwright, Cogger, Jenkins, Pearce-Paul, Pryce, Clifford, Lahrs, Vailea, Harper, Tuilagi, Alomoti, Laurie, Price, Schneider, Keppie, Wighton, Flanagan, Sele, Leniu, Murphy, Young, Fainu, Fainu, Sezer, Sullivan
Sharks and Storm both none

How many of those are actually legit exciting?
Most of the good ones are outside backs which, realistically, are surplus to requirements, Crichton, Farnworth, even Averillo, Talau, RTS or KPP - I think between Ramien, Talakai, Iro, Tracey and maybe Dykes we just don't need to splash big on a centre.

Curran or Tuilagai could have been good from a depth perspective although both available due to deficiencies.
Flegler would have been great, Leniu yes also, although I think Tommy Hazelton and Hunt can bring plenty of grunt off the bench for combined longer minutes at probably combined similar or less cost. A Keppie, or Sele, or Waddell? Maybe useful, hardly exciting.

Obviously squeezing in Wighton somewhere would be great, but no prospect of that happening.

Our core is extremely promising, like you and CHOGM said. Need to keep advancing that so when the marquee blokes becomes available we are an attractive destination. Grab those couple of vets being squeezed out of their clubs to complete a grand final side.

When was that? I think maybe you've conflated Wade's comments and Fitz's.

In the presser he said they've started to grow up as a footy team and improve some of the things they weren't good at at the start of the year.

Wade said "the core group will get a lot out of that game".

I agree with the sentiment of your post though. Fitz's comments would indicate that he believes things are heading in the right direction.

Dykes missing this season has put us on a hold recruiting an outside back / half.
The kid has the potential to be a mega star if that eventuates and in what position will determine what moves we make in the future imo

AFB requests immediate release from Warriors

We have to be all over this

I highly doubt we can afford him. Even if we give them one our forwards (a player that would need to uproot their family on short notice and move to another country) in return, I doubt that would cover the cap space we’d need for him.

Nah you move heaven and earth for him.
They wanted Toby a few years ago and are losing their best prop. Offer him and anyone else they want.

Not sure where he'd sit on the no ********s policy but too good to pass up if we could land him.

Imagine taking AFB off for a breather and BHU or Hazelton comes on...
