Eels are pushing for Lomax trying to get him this year. They believe they can take on his full salary too which is 800k. Not sure how they think they’re that much under the cap :?
800k would start from November. So he's already been paid 4 months, would be 5 before anything went through you'd think.

Regardless, he's been rejected and I can't see Flanno budging.

You make a very good point.

When a team's not going well it seems like the young promising halves are often the ones who get churned.

I wonder how long Trindall would have lasted at the Bulldogs the way they've been over the last few seasons.

Tricky would have been lucky to still have a FG career

I wonder where Kyle Flanagan would be right now if his old man wasn't coaching Dragons

The dogs attack is so bad but their defense and general handling puts pressure on the attack to perform.

I don't know if they have the right coach either, they would have done well with a bloke like Shane Flanagan than a young hyped unproven guy in charge

Yeah agree, Flanno is exactly the coach they needed. He seems to have that old style Dogs' DNA as well.

And his son was already there which would have made it easier to convince Shane if they promise Kyle game time.

Flanno wasn't approved to coach at the time but I think we all knew it would only be a matter of time before he is back.

The Dogs interim coaches (has been 2 or 3 I can think back to) have seemed to have their heads on straight + experienced and actually out performed the regular full time FG coaches ha. Dogs deadset looked better teams under them and were getting wins.

Should have stuck it out with one of them until a Flanno Snr came along. Maybe they didn't want another old head in charge but Ciraldo has been seriously under whelming.

Totally agree, Flanno would do wonders with the roster the Dogs have now. And probably shaped it to be even better over those rebuilding years.

I think the difference between Ciraldo and Fitz, both similar early coaching career stages and potential, is that Fitz took over a team ready to play finals (for the next several years as it turns out). The Dogs was a huge assignment for a new head coach. Too big, really. Ciraldo might still come good, but he's not exactly been set up for success.

I thought Potter deserved atleast a full year/pre-season after scraping them off the bottom of the ladder

Tbf Gus has spoken on a lot of this. Says CC is a long-term coach and Panthers went through similar pain while setting up their own academy. Short term pain was expected.

Looking at the score in sg ball on the weekend looks like it might be starting to work

That is fair to keep in mind. The question for mine is can Gus shield Ciraldo long enough so that he gets the chance to realise that vision? Flanno's only one game in, but that game has looked a lot better than virtually any Dogs game in the past two years. I never see it as a good sign when a player switches clubs and almost immediately seems a better player, either. That's not based on science or anything, but it's not a great look... especially when that player was your club captain. That's just visuals, I get it, but that's a big part of a coach keeping his job these days.

Dragons problem was always the coach and the board getting in their own way though.

Dragon's roster has been better constructed than Dogs for awhile, they haven't had a huge turn over of players in key positions so combinations were already there for flanno to work with.

The Junior and local league competitions in Dragons area have also always been strong so don't have to divert huge effort to fixing that either.
