Nah I’m out. Thinking of other big bodies like he has - Fifita, Papalii, Taumalolo, Bromwich, they all went from being destructive to middle of the road pretty quick.

1.125 on a prop seems crazy too, when you consider Fish and Leota would probably just tip over that on combined salary.

Until this year Brisbane had Haas and couldn’t make the finals. Titans have Tino and don’t make the finals. Having a gun prop is important, but being our highest paid player, at his age, is too big of a risk.
I’m not sure what Leota is on but Fish gets $1mil a season

I just looked that up. You’re right. Damn, I wouldn’t have thought panthers could’ve afforded to have him on $1m

Yep this 100% needs to happen. I was gobsmacked when it came out that CT was on 500k.

Not sure Ronnie is currently in the top 3-5 wingers in the game after this season. Nikora definitely right up there for his position and will need a pay rise.
I think this is incorrect. My recollection was that Riccio said by releasing Connor we had 500k available, but then clarified that it included Moylans money. Putting bother Moylan and Connor around 350 ish.

You could easily win a trophy with a spine of Kennedy/Dykes/Hynes/Brailey/Trindall

They are all electric and have enough skill to compete with big guns..
I agree, I was asking the question as there's been enough criticism of Brailey, plus obvious question marks around Dykes and Tricky. I think AFB is the last piece, but it gives us a small window in which the spine + left edge D need to take a real big step.

Agree on the risk. But I think it's one worth taking. There are no guarantees if we pass that we can put together a winning pack without a rebuild.

I guess the question is what (realistic) player/position can we spend a million on to better improve our chances?

Do you think a four year / $1.25m contract is value for a prop that’ll be 29 when he gets here?

I want him at the club, but I don’t think the contract is good value. To put it in perspective, the three other clubs in the race for his signature at that price are all fkn desperate basket cases.

Agree however he aint cheap
550k a year for the 4 years he’s here. Think he’s been worth every cent especially this season. Id definitely extend him for another 2 years once his contract expires. Think he’s 29 atm? Looks after himself so will likely be one of those forwards who plays longer than most imo.

That contract probably not.
Presumably 1.18m x 2 years is what you are picking up. If you can get him at that for 29/30… even one more year, think it could be worth it.
Look at the last few years of grand final forward packs, our guys aren’t at that level.
I know I’ve said a few I think are primed to make a step up and we have guys like Tommy coming through but AFB skips us straight to a contender pack which some of the others can build off.

There are some other options here who could help us similarly https://www.zerotackle.com/players/off-contract-2025/
But AFB has the form right now and is (potentially) interested in joining us.

Dragons sign SOO star
Corey Allan

Really adding their firepower.

He was a solid fill-in NRL player at one stage, not a particularly high point to fall from but he managed it.

Also showed Luki around facility, and offering aFB 4.5m 4 year contract

I think with Corey he kept insisting that he wanted to be a fullback. If he was happy being a “winger who can cover fullback” things might have gone differently for him.

I have a bit of a soft spot for the guy. He grew up nearby and I wouldn’t say I know him but I’ve chatted with his dad at games. He never really excelled at fullback in Q Cup before going up though. Was one of those guys who got by on physical tools and destroyed comps in his own age group, but once he hit Q Cup there are lots of guys who were fast enough to catch him and good enough to tackle him.

Ride with me if it’s like this

Dykes fullback
Hynes at 6
Tricky at 7 controlling in game kicking mostly
Brailey at 9 but with a little more attacking

That will give us a mad platform

Kennedy is cool but I think Dykes will be very close to taking his or trickys spot

No one for 2024/25 realistically, unless others request releases like AFB. There are usually a few surprise moves that become available.

The goal could be to recruit another elite player in the spine, but even looking forward to 2026, there aren't many available. I think the best strategy in the comp at the moment is development and retention, and it seems Fitz is all over that.
