Not sure I'd put Staines in the big loss basket.
Ivan's biggest strength as a coach seems to be to understand the style of play needed to get the best out of his squad (or understand the strengths of his players and find the style to suit, depending on how want to cut it). The Panthers looked pretty different with Kikau around and as he and others cycle through, they just keep adapting.

How about Bula signing with the Tigers for $700k. Well done youngster!
The Tigers are confident in him... less so their chances in the coming years :D

I was really impressed with him this year but that's a massive show of faith from the Tigers.

They probably had to do it, not sure I would have given him four years though.

Same. I think he's got another two years of development before he's demanding that sort of coin. But yeah, the Tigers are probably not in a position to mess around with the futures of promising players

Manly have tabled a monster $5.6 million package deal in a bid to retain Haumole Olakau’atu until at least the end of 2030 as the club also entertains the prospect of a player swap to lure Wests Tigers prop Alex Twal.

Olakau’atu is already contracted until the end of 2025, although his current deal doesn’t reflect his status as one of the NRL’s most damaging back-rowers. The parties have been working for several months on an upgrade package, which was delivered last week in the form of a five-year extension. Sources with knowledge of the situation, speaking on the condition of anonymity given the negotiations are ongoing, have told this masthead the deal averages out to about $800,000 per year.

Re: Olakau'atu. It's a lot of money over a loooong time. Not sure I'd want a forward (or anyone for that matter) on our books for this long.
Hopefully, the deal goes through and it backfires within 2 or 3 years.

Yeah it's a tough one. On one hand, at least he's an edge and not a middle. Taumalolo looked like he would be worth taking it for but he's struggled over the last few years. I'm just not sure it's worth the risk for anyone but a gun spine player.

Billy Smith would be a good pick up if he signs elsewhere.

I can see him transitioning into being a ball playing forward down the track.

What’s the new role?
Thought he would be happy working with us and it fit his media commitments. Can’t do too much more up the ladder without impacting those

Fox reported it as an assistant coach, working with the spine (2 days per week).

Ennis looked after pathways here, so different role at Manly.

Does Tommy Turbo really need Ennis telling him how to fullback?
I think people need to disregard what position a guy played when determining his coaching role. Craig Bellamy being a second rower didn't hurt Billy Slater.

I can see why Ennis would have been helpful to Jayden Brailey in year one learning the exact system Flanno/Ennis played the 2 years previous, but that time's long gone now. I'm sure there is plenty an NRL fullback can learn from a really good coach no matter what position he played.
