there's waaaaay too many rumours goin on here lately. First we are signing ricky, then he won't sign coz kimmorley's sticking around (and they're too childish enough to not make up), now kimmorley's leaving to play with the chooks, and we've got heaps of money, which we'll use to buy O'Meley, Joey Johns, Mat Rogers, buy back Peachey, keep Gallen with us (and make him captain), get rid of dykes, buy Benji Marshall, a box of kleenex and some shoulder pads ...

So Hang On, The Club Won't Let Gallen Go, But They'll Happily Let Kimmorley Go.

Or Maybe, Anderson And The Sharks Made A Deal - He Gets Kimmorley, And We Don't Have To Pay Off The Rest Of What We Owe Him.

Just win us a premiership!

Rumour mill grinds out Kimmorley-Anderson connection

September 17, 2006

Sharks chief executive Greg Pierce has laughed off a supposed bid by the Sydney Roosters to recruit star halfback Brett Kimmorley to play under Chris Anderson.

When Anderson signed with the Roosters on Friday the rumour mill went into overdrive, insisting Kimmorley would seek a release from the final year of his $400,000-a-season contract so he could be reunited with the man who had coached him at Melbourne, the Sharks and with the Australian team.

"The only people who have phoned me about it are journalists," Pierce said. "I'm not saying that it won't eventuate or that it won't happen, but it isn't my job to chase a rumour.

"We have enough things to worry about. If something does happen, I'll be honest and upfront about it."

Pierce's counterpart at the Roosters, Brian Canavan, also dismissed the suggestion.

"The simple answer is we are very happy with the halfback at our club," Canavan said. "We're content with what we have."

One former Shark ecstatic to hear of Anderson's appointment was rugged forward Danny Nutley, who will return to the NRL after a stint with English club Castleford.

The Roosters signed Nutley to replace England-bound enforcer Adrian Morley when Ricky Stuart was still at the helm. However, Nutley couldn't hide his elation on learning he'd again join forces with Anderson, who signed him to the Sharks.

"Absolutely sensational," Nutley said. "I still have the smile on my face.

"Chris has the ability to relate to his players and he knows how to push people's buttons. He gave me my chance and I haven't forgotten that."

Nutley, who stressed he had no idea of what life was like at the Roosters under Stuart, expected his new teammates would enjoy playing under the premiership-winning coach.

While Anderson's reign at the Bulldogs and Storm, and the Sharks - who terminated his contract - had its stormy moments, Nutley insisted he looked out for his players.

"He likes keeping the boys together," he said.

"If there is a problem he keeps it in-house and works it out."

Meanwhile, the Sharks, who hired consultants to examine the areas in which the club is failing, expect a draft to be tabled on Wednesday and a final report by Friday.

Pierce said the consultants had identified "90 per cent" of the things the club had pinpointed as problems before the review.

The Sharks' season ended dismally, with 10 straight losses completing their campaign.

Coach Stuart Raper's position was said to be under threat, but Pierce previously has said the exercise is not a witch-hunt.

Meanwhile, Sharks five-eighth Adam Dykes has scotched suggestions he is headed to England by revealing he not only intends to honour the final year of his contract, but wants to extend it.

"I love playing for Cronulla and I want to extend my contract because I'm passionate about the Sharks," he said.

"I'd be the last person to bale out of here just because we've had a tough period.

"I want to help get the club back on track."

Dykes also dismissed statistics that suggest he and Kimmorley don't form a good on-field partnership, based on the win-loss ratio.

if Ricky becomes coach, will Phil Gould like the sharks now?

it bugs the crap out of me when he comentates a game, and bags out the sharks all the time. not that i value his opinion at all. it just doesn't do much for people just getting interested in the game who might become sharks fans.

If you dont value his opinion then why does it bug you? kinda defeats the purpose doesnt it? Phil gould has forgotten more about the game than you will ever know.

Well, if you read the rest of my post ...

Even people who aren't sharks fans, or don't know much about our team are getting this negative view, because guru gus is bagging us out all the time.

That, and there's a bit of pride, I don't like bad things being said about my team.

Fair enough - must have missed that. The way Gould was going on in the paper today (what I could be bothered to read of his article), sounded like he and Ricky were on good terms. But I only read the first few paragraphs...

Although he never really liked the Sharks he didn't start bad mouthing us till we got rid of Peachey, who was one of his favourite players. He would mention it every game he was commenting on.

Still, it shouldn't really matter what he says with regards to bringing in new supporters, that should be done by our performances on the field.

as much of a knob-head gould is, he is a truly astute analyser of the game.
it just bugs me when he delivers some actually smart commentary, totally surrounded by all that other dribble he spews out.

I do like the Gus, but hate him bagging the sharks, but he has every right to bag them after the last 10 rounds.
