I'm definitely speculating about the warriors exit, but I guess that was in response to the speculation that he has changed/reformed.

For me, keeping his nose clean is the bare minimum and more reflects a concern for losing his gravy train than remorse and redemption. In order to explore signing him, I'd want to know more about the active steps he is taking to leave a better imprint on society. Hopefully beyond "I'll let the people who hate me watch me get punched in the head for charity". Not that I hate that, just think he could do more.

I'm not saying that he isn't doing any of these things for what it's worth.

Jack bird is a big no for me. I'd take him potentially after his next crack at another decent contract, when he's sick of playing for shitty teams and wants a cheap deal to win another comp with us.

What he did was at a pretty high level of psychotic violence, presumably brought about by substance abuse.
If that kind of thing was going to happen again I don't think fear of losing his NRL contract would be enough to stop it.
I doubt he is thinking as soon as this money stops I can be a monster again, and rather is (hopefully) thinking I won't ever put myself in that situation again.
But thinking has been an issue for him in the past.

I agree we haven't necessarily seen him out doing Nicho or Ronnie levels of good. Does he need to?
He has repaid the debt to the victims, does he owe the general public charity work to prove he is not a monster anymore?
Not really sure where I stand on the answer to that. It wouldn't hurt with impressions of him, but required for forgiveness from unaffected randoms? Might be nice, but no.

Russell Packer is another bloke I would have been fine if they just never let him back in. Do we know if he has been in any trouble since his gravy train dried up?

I think if you want to be a public figure, you either set the example or you forfeit that position. I don't think exceptions should be made because we want our team to win.

Sorry I don't mean on form I was referring to his record outside of footy compared to Lodge.

I know you said you'd be okay with signing Lodge so its more for people who said no to being able to support him, just wondering if they could support AFB or other players charged with domestic violence offences

Then you get a guy like Todd Carney who never hurt anybody except his own reputation and himself. Gets driven out of the nrl.

Very strange game we follow.

I'm definitely not insinuating the bold. That's ridiculous.

I just believe that his role is a position of privilege, and someone should have to earn back that position of privilege. That's what it would take for me to be okay with him back as a representative of the NRL and the club. I don't believe you earn that right after what he did by just not ****ing up again.

Whether people want them to be or not, these guys are roll models not just for other players, but for the kids/the community.

Anyway, I don't think we'll agree on this one, and I don't want to derail this thread any further.

He already IS playing NRL though, whether he earned it back or not he already has the privilege. And he is yet to throw it away (a second time).

We don't strongly disagree, I'm fine with not signing him and up until this time his name was raised I have been very much in the firm NO camp. He has been relatively incident free in the NRL long enough that I wouldn't mind if we did sign him though.

The guy was 20 at the time and is now about to turn 28. That is definitely a part of someone's life where they can significantly mature and change as a person.

This is the rumour thread, you can talk about anything in here, the goal is to get the page numbers up I believe. Or I can just make up some nonsense
One of the wiggles wants to buy the Tigers and bring Balmain back.
