He was a halfback for us in the 80's, retired in 1991.
I thought halfback but when I checked quickly it said fullback. Probably accidentally ended up on wrong person.
I’d already regretted starting the list by then haha

Really taking the piss of the ‘one player’ topic haha

What harm did hodgkinson do anyway?
Holdsworth was a backup to Carney and Robson - what harm did he do?
Are you just naming players you think were mediocre?

And you spelt my name wrong!

Russell was definitely a halfback/five eighth. Fullback during his time was one of either ET or Jonathan Docking. My childhood memories flood back remembering that 80's team.

Holdsworth may not have been a great player but has certainly proved his value as specialist halves coach

Holdsworth was a worse version of Robson

I think they partnered up in the halves on an occasion or 2 and it was the worse thing you have seen

Holdsworth had a better long boot than Robbo though and Daniel did slot that 40m field goal against the Cows

I completely forgot Hodkison played for us and had to look it up to double check
He was a good player but we got him a bit late post Bulldogs days after some injuries and form slide

Single-handedly lost an Origin Series and an International tournament in the same year. Has to be a first.
And what has he ever done for us, by the way?

Anyone we have signed new to the club over 28 there will be a few exceptions but 95% all turned to duds.

Of all the million dollar players we have signed in our history he is both the best and worst

I know that your reply and my comment were written in jest, but I respectfully disagree. He's by far our best million dollar player ever (small sample size, I know ;)). Finals (and 2023 overall) have been disappointing no doubt, but we'd been nowhere near 3rd of 6th spot the past two years without him.

Unfortunately being paid on " potential " not actual delivery.

He's played one game off the bench out of position where the team were already being flogged and already the knives are out for him being a million dollar player. Lets at least let him play a game in a Sharks jersey

When his $1m contract kicked in anyway? Start of this month?
I assume so

DT have him on 620k last season in an article they released after they reported on his extension and $ upgrade

Certainly that doesn't make anything fact though

I think holding the payrise out from the season underway probably makes sense but doubt you'd get away with not applying it for the next season.

If we had 400k spare in the cap at the start of last season we'd probably be best served holding that until trade deadline in case we could do something and then use it to do some front loading (of him and/or others) when that passed without spending it.

I don't think you have to scale it against himself... more around other halves

Only has to be like 42% better than Chad Townsend
But still gets to be 25% worse than Cleary (Cleary is almost two Townsends!)

Should be approximately equal to 1 Hughes or Moses

So if a team has the cash they can either sign Cleary and a guy on minimum wage, or they can clone Chad and run with a Chad-Chad combo?
