We shouldn't have sacked him in the first place. Yes he punched that bird in the face and I don't condone that. The Australian justice system felt that 200 hours of community service was punishment enough for the crime he committed. A punishment that could of easily been carried out alongside his football with the club linking him with any number of charities to spend a couple hundred hours with.
The club f-cked up and went off half c0cked and got rid of one of the best hookers we'd had in donkey's. The NRL backed up the club by de-registering him, preventing him from fronting up against us in opposition colours a couple weeks later. Now we're a couple years on and I wouldn't be surprised if he's going to be turning out in opposition colours against us in 2010 at the latest.
I'd be happy if we did sign him back up, he's talent and talented players win games, and winning games should be number one priority for every sporting club, especially a professional sporting club whose fans fork out good chunks of their pay cheques to support. Its only a bonus if those talented match winners are also top notch lads living ethical and moral lives.
I'll say right now though, Tevita Leo-Latu will not play for the Cronulla Sharks again. The club will not re-sign him in a million years. All we can gain out of Latu wanting to return to the NRL is the club to have a bit of a think back, realise where they went wrong and work toward not making the same mistakes again by punting a talented player to up public perception.
