Ha ha HB!

Seriously though, what a win. I had all intentions of staying up to watch it but the women's match before it went an extra set so I went to bed. Our dog got me up at 1.30am to go out so I switch on with the score at 4-3 Kyrgios in the first set. Watched the rest of that set and was very impressed. I thought, doesn't matter if he wins or loses, this kid's got the goods. Very happy for him when I woke up this morning to find out he'd won.

Memo to Bernard Tomic. That is how you play the game, that is how you beat the top players and that is how humble you need to be when you win.

Congratulations Nick Kyrgios, you have done your country proud.

I didn't really give him a chance so was very surprises this morning to see the result. I like this kid, full of confidence in his own ability and very brash, but at the same time he's quite humble when you listen to him being interviewed. Also heard his parents being interviewed and you can tell he comes from a grounded family which helps.

Tomic won't go too far in the game imo, he's a finesse player and you need a bit of power these days. I also reckon the rise of Kyrgios would be pissing Tomic off, that's the kind of ******** he is.

Yes, I know he's two years older than Becker was when he first won Wimbledon but his power play does remind me of Becker a bit. So he plays the bloke from Canada next, Milos somthing...You'd have to think he has a chance there as well. Then it's probably Fedex or Murray in the Semis.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves!

He has to play tonight so short turnaround won't help him. Milos has a massive serve as well so will be interesting. Doesn't matter what happens now, he's had a magnificent tournament.

It's nice having something to distract me from the footy tbh.

I cannot believe what I just saw, I woke up later this am & first thing I checked was the score of his match unfortunately I couldnt watch it last night. If he can beat Rafa it means he can beat anyone when he puts his mind to it! This guy is only about 18-19 he has a long career ahead of him & hopefully a successful one. He might be our next Pat Rafter, who knows.

Yes, it is mate, great to have a nice distraction. Why the short turnaround? Don't they usually have two days break from each game?

I just listened to Rafas press conference lol, had a few negative things to say about him, I think he is probably just a bit shocked that he got beaten by an Aussie teen & that someone else his age when he won Wimbledon is coming through, Rafa was 19 when he won Wimbledon so maybe hes just a bit shocked that another teenager is taking the tournament by storm hahaha

I ddin't think there was anything wrong with what Rafa said. His english isn't great and as a result things often get lost a bit in transalation with him. He's as humble as they come, true champion.

Really? That's disappointing, IMO, Rafael, Fed & Joker are all great examples of how to conduct yourself in winning or defeat, shocked to read that Rafa was otherwise.

He was a bit hard to understand I'll admit that & as a result that was just my understanding thats why i read the yahoo article, I may have read it the wrong way & taken the quotes the wrong way but thats just what I read on the article.

You're right with the short turn around hurting NK, he is probably just starting to get into a real fitness base on the pro tour, I know he is young but he wouldn't be as fit as at a lot of the guys on tour, I suppose you could call it match fitness. He has strung 4 or so rounds of quality tennis together plus maybe the qualifiers to get in the main draw so he will be coming into a flat spot shortly.

A big factor in tonight's match v Raonic will be how he returns Raonic's serve, they both serve bombs but it will come down to NK making decent returns, if he can get into the point when receiving he is more than capable of winning the majority of points as I believe he has the better ground strokes over Raonic.

Moving forward for NK he will need to learn how to kill the point quicker, many times last night he let Rafa off the hook when Rafa did some so/so returns from NK's serve, people like Fed, Joker, Rafa, Murray etc have the ability to kill the point when serving a bomb, NK will get this as matures as he seems to be a smart thinking player as well.

Big kudo's to him, he's playing out of his skin.

He's a natural baseliner so if he can get his volleying up a few notches in the next few yrs he will end up being a very hard player to beat.
