Well that's good. Welcome to the A League Harold.
Have been watching a little bit of it. I don't support anyone but it's not bad, fills the off season a bit.
Saving a spot in your heart for St Geosutherlandagong FC.
So I called Foxtel last month to cancel my sports package with the NRL and AFL seasons done with. They gave me a month for free which ends tomorrow. Just called to cancel and they gave me four months for $10. Not bad.
Should Channel Nine surrender the right to broadcast Saturday night matches, in exchange for a payment of $40m per year from Fox Sports, a $1.9 billion NRL TV deal from 2018 to 2022 is likely.
The price the NRL will expect for the key 7.30pm Saturday time slot, should it be sold to Fox Sports and therefore no longer be available to every household in Australia, is critical to the final overarching deal.
I didn't even know this was an option for the next deal? I thought it was locked in that four ganes would be on FTA. So the crap the NRL sprouted out about it being a great deal because of more games on FTA may not even eventuate.
This stinks.
I'm pretty sure the NRL has to OK any on-selling by CH9.
The more games on fox the better it will be
But it's on the cards which wasn't clear when they announced the 9 deal. It will happen, I have no doubt.
I thought it was pretty clear that CH9 had an option to on-sell what they brought.
The 4th slot was valuable to them not just because it was extra content, but also because Fox valued it highly to complete their "super Saturday".
NRL & CH9 have pretty much consorted to make Fox pay through the nose for these rights.
Lots more to come I reckon and the Murdoch spin will not stop.
The National Rugby League is poised to announce a historic rights agreement with Fox Sports, with the News Corp-owned pay-television broadcaster believed to have acquired the rights to the crucial Saturday night game from the free-to-air rights holder Nine Entertainment Co for around $175 million as part of the five-year deal.

Rugby League fans will be able to watch four live matches each week on free to air television from 2018 as part of a new broadcast rights agreement reached with the Nine Network today.
NRL CEO Dave Smith said Channel 9 has secured the rights to screen matches on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during prime time and on Sunday at 4 pm.
The deal, the biggest in Australian free to air television history, is worth up to $925 million and will take effect from 2018.
Mr Smith said the number of live games shown on free to air television would increase from two at present to four.
“So there will be more live and free Rugby League on television – and that is what the fans want,” Mr Smith said.
Mr Smith said the agreement would also help secure the long term financial future of the game.
“And we still have simulcast rights, pay tv, New Zealand and international television rights to be negotiated.
“So the future of the game is in great shape.”
The CEO of Nine Entertainment Co, David Gyngell said Rugby League was part of Nine’s DNA.
“This is a transformational outcome for supporters, Rugby League and Nine,” he said.
“It will enable views to see the best of the NRL, live and free, four days a week – anywhere and on any device.”

Or maybe David Smith was punted so that this could happen.
