Right then Sharkies time for an update on all things Scorpion ... Everything is now in place for the start of the season ...we have a 23 man squad in place with few more signings in the offering ..made up of good welsh youngsters from around the welsh Conf league a few players with Crusaders experience all be it not SL grade but reserve grade and Under 18s and a couple of more experienced players one being welsh international Phil Cushion who was there when Crusaders started in this league . pre season was thrown into turmoil on Sunday when our one and only pre season game proper was called off due to the Wigan Under 20 team unable to travel down to wales due to all the snow up north ...so its straight into league action on Sunday with the visit of Workington to the Gnoll with a 1.30 ko ....i shall keep you posted witha result thread and report on all scorpions games if u wish ?????????

Well chaps what a game .....For the very first time South wales Scorpions took to the field as thet entertained Workington Town one of the favourites to lift the Division Championship. Scorpions had recruited 3 Crusaders on loan for a month (Ben Flower, Anthony Blackwood, and Jordan James ) who went straight into the line up . Early doors it looked as if the Scorps would run away with it as they ponded a nervous Worky line and went in at half time 16 - 0 up ...from where i was sitting you wanna hear the Bollockin that the Worky players got from their coach lol but it seemed to do the trick as they were a new team after the break and it was Scorpions left to make the silly new boys mistakes and touch of indiscipline which meant that wih ten mins to go it was all square at 20 - 20 Worky tried first with the drop goal attempt but it was wide then a drive from Scorps ended the same way with a missed drop goal attempt . Then Worky had another set of six which came to nothing after a high punt on the last ....Scorps then drove and found themselves about 25 mtrs out when a high kick went in ...bodies all over place going for ball ...when the melay was over the refs whistle went ..PENALTY to Scorpions ..1 min left .....Up stepped skipper Aled james to fire it over to complete an historic victory ........ONWARDS AND UPWARDS lol

Well my Antipodean mates there was no league game for the Scorpions this week so they sent a team of squad members down my neck of the woods (nice to go see Footy only 20 mins from my house rather than an hour) to play against a team of Amateurs made up from players from the teams in the Welsh Conference league ....although thigs started badly for the Scorps (goin 6 - 0) down after first set of six lol ...things settled into a scoring routine and the lads cantered to a 84 - 18 victory on a sunny but bloody freezin Sunday afternoon ....next week (My Birthday lol) the Scorps travel up north to take on Doncaster in what should be an intreguing encounter ...will have a report next Sunday evenin for you

Here we go then lads n lassies The Scorpions first ever away match was a tough looking trip to Doncaster , it was expected that after the high of winning our first ever match a couple of weeks ago this week would be a rough tough encounter with all eyes on how the lads would perform after the long trip from Sth Wales .....well the worries seem to have been banished with a fine result

Doncaster (4) 8

T: S Wilson 1, L Gomersall 1,
G:
DG:

South Wales (6) 18

T: D James 1, A Gay 1, S Parry 1,
G: A James 3,

Oh well our first defeat as a semi pro outfit after we travelled up to one of the pre season favourites for this weekends game but we can hold our heads high after gaining the bonus point in a very close game fought by two evenly matched teams

York (12) 25

T: D Ratcliffe 1, C Bromilow 1, J McLocklan 1, B Waller 1,
G: L Waterman 4,
DG: C Thorman 1,

South Wales (6) 24

T: C Richards 1, L Mills 1, G Dudson 1, S Parry 1,
G: L White 4,
DG:

in this keenly fought duel both teams held the lead onlly to fail to kill of the other time after time and with scores tied at 24 - 24 with 1 minute to go Thorman popped up with well taken drop goal to seal the points for unbeaten York but as i say a good result for our lads ...hard to remember we have only now played three games together as a team ...anyway we now have a run of three home games starting next Sunday when the London Skolars visit The Gnoll .....

Good evenin chaps just in from the game on a pleasant Sunday evenin (makes a change eh) and im happy to report a VICTORY

South Wales (24) 48

T: L Wildbore 1, G Dudson 1, S Parry 1, L White 2, C Roets 1, B Flower 1, B Phillips 1,
G: L Wildbore 1, L White 7,
DG:

London Skolars (0) 6

T: M Carter 1,
G: P Thorman 1,
DG:

The result was never in doubt as we socred 24 points in each half and only let them over our line once after about 70 mins so all in all a good all round performance against on the the leagues poorer outfits to be honest , but all credit to the Skolars lads who turn up wekk after week and travel large distances to play the game we all love and dont get much reward ...and sure as eggs is eggs we will come up against far sterner tests than the one we had today but a win is a win and we now sit proudly on top of the league , not bad for a team in its first few months of existance

Right then chaps the result of our game this afternoon

KO: 1400, Venue: , Att: 798

South Wales (6) 12

Hunslet (16) 42

taught a footy lesson by one of the favourites to wil the league . it was as the score suggests men versus boys Hunslet were bigger , faster and had far to much experience for our boys whos cause wasnt helped when just before ko captain Aled James pulled his back , but as i say Hunslet are one of the faves to win league and it showed and next week will be same at home against Oldham

Ere we go then friends from down under this weeks game

Sun 11th AprilKO: 1400, Venue: , Att: 625 South Wales (6) 16

T: C Richards 1, S Parry 1, C Roets 1,

DG:

Oldham (16) 22

T: L Onyango 1, M Fogerty 1, D Whitmore 1, J Boults 1,
G: P O'Connor 3,
DG:

Again this week we were up against a vastly more experienced team than us and another tipped for honours at end of season . This week was a much better performance in that we didnt seam to run out of steam as the game went on in fact if anythin Oldham were hangin on a bit in the end as we came on strong but all in all i think a fair result as we still spill to much ball in daft positions and dont capitalise on good field position ...but hey that will all come in time eh
