Ben Cross has been absolutely awful this year. So bad. Matt Cross is playing better footy. There are better options, much better. I agree they have to pick 4 genuine props, (of which one can be TLL who can play backrow too) and get on top of them in the middle of the park.

I wrote this a while back- NSW have a good crop of young/middle aged props to pick from, they just continue to pick the wrong ones. Brett White had his best game for NSW last night, but tbh it was the first time he's ever looked up to it. And it has taken a good three (?) seasons of Origin for him to get there and he's only just a pass now- I ask you, if Luke Douglas had been given that chance instead, how good a player would he be now?

Anyway, take your pick from these (in my very rough order of preference):

Weyman (not necesarily to start)
Snowden
Galloway
TLL
Douglas
Kite (the best of the experienced mob, still with plenty of good footy left in him if someone could get him motivated again. He won the Churchill a couple of years ago and if you can get him really up for the game and leading a pack like he did that day, you're on a winner- but off the bench would be best I reckon.)
Grant (been super impressive, and the guy is MASSIVE)
Poore (average season but massively underrated atm, he's still a good player just not in the category that his price tag suggests)
White
Tolman
Mannah, T (within two years Mannah, J will be at the same level I suspect)
Tilse (maybe...)

Note that doesn't include Cross, Ryles (just no), King (who the f*** suggested him, seriously?), Rose (fat), Hunt (plodder- would be like a really s*** version of Weyman), Bailey (too old, and retired from rep footy so don't even bother, and too small).

The props should come from the top 6 of that list. They won't all go good every game to start with, but they will come good with time.

The starting backrow should be made up of Watmough, Gal and Lewis, who should be captain. Waterhouse on the bench.

Its not that f***ing hard NSW.

Weyman is fine, I would pick him but only to play 30 minutes, which means you need 3 more props and they have to be capable of more minutes.

Instead they pick 3 props in total, one not even really a prop.

It should be four genuine props plus TLL as an impact forward playing prop or second row.

8 - Weyman
9 - Ennis
10 - Cross
11 - Gallen
12 - O'Donnell
13 - Bird
14 - Snowden
15 - Douglas/Mannah
16 - TLL
17 - Lewis (utility)

the forward pack is the least of NSW's problems... i would start working on the coach and halves combo first...

that said this is a pretty good looking pack -but they wont win origin for you

Who the 5/8th should be going forward is definitely up for debate.

Personally, I thought Barrett was good last night and I'd leave him there to help Pearce for another year (tell him the job's his for another year and ask him to play on).

The long-term hald back is Pearce. The long term 5/8th could come from any number of players- Carney, Bird, Mullen, Campese, Sutton and Soward.

Comments on the rest?

The rest I could put down to difference of opinion etc, but the Waterhouse thing I just can't get past. It makes me question your judgement with the rest to be honest. Especially with the NSW back row which is surely the only position(s) that NSW have a hard choice choosing players for.

But if you had a good reason, that may change things, which is why I asked.

It's like me with Cross and Weyman. I don't think they're the best all-round props, but they are tough bastards, and in a rotation with 4 props total including more fit props that can play minutes, I'd rather have guys like Weyman and Cross playing less minutes but making those minutes count.

I forgot Watmough in my chosen pack. I would pick him over O'Donnell.

Fari enough. As I said, I could easily be swayed over Waterhouse- he's only on the bench. I'd kind of like someone who's just gonna get out there and take the hitups and make some strong tackles and not be bowled over by Thaiday or Taylor while my starting backrow are off the field.

Who would you prefer? O'Donnell? I can see any of LOD, Bird, Stewart, Paterson, Prior (in a year or so's time) and Mason getting that spot (though not all to do the same job as Waterhouse). The starting backrow is what I'm really certain of though- Thaiday is the only other backrower in the comp that holds a candle to those three, and they balance each other beautifully in terms of style.

Ha, your selection of Cross makes me question the rest of yours too! He's just playing awfully at the moment. I used to be a fan (sorta) but geez... Newcastle are getting trampled weekly and he only makes about 6 hitups. Too old, so so so slow.

Obviously over both games the goal line defence of NSW has been attrocious. If QLD start a set within the 30 metre zone, you knew a try was being scored that set. There are alot of problems with the side but I would have to say that is the main one.

I would be interested to hear who some of you guys would blame for this fact as for me personally it was hard to tell. Joel Monaghan kept rushing in and we looked stretched on both sides regularly but the winger can't stay out there if the line slides the other way. So which players do you blame? Or do you blame the team and coach in general?

He had a blinder in one game when he came off the bench. Gotta admit though, I try to avoid watching Newcastle play.

Players support Bellamy
17/06/2010 4:43 PM
Adam Lucius

Leading NSW players have thrown their support behind besieged mentor Craig Bellamy amid calls for the Blues to replace him with an independent coach – possibly before the end of the current series.

Bellamy became the first coach in Origin history to preside over three series losses in a row following Queensland's emphatic 34-6 win in game two on Wednesday night.

The NSW Rugby League will launch a full review into what went wrong at the end of the series, with heavy emphasis on what needs to be put in place if the Blues are to end the Maroons' five-year dominance.

Choosing a coach with no club affiliation will be high on the agenda, with soon-to-be-departed Cronulla boss Ricky Stuart in the frame for the job.

But Blues forward Nathan Hindmarsh is adamant the NSW coach should be picked from the NRL's ranks, praising Bellamy's work in the lead-up to Origin II.

"That's the first time I've been coached by Craig Bellamy and I thought he did an excellent job," the Parramatta veteran said at Sydney Airport on Thursday.

"I don't think that (an independent coach) needs to happen."

"Melbourne has nothing to play for this year so his mind was totally on Origin."

"I think he did a great job and was a great coach."

"I learnt a lot from him. He was good."

Paul Gallen added: "It's (losing) tough on everyone. Everyone puts in such an effort."

"The coaching staff have months and months of planning going into it."

"I don't know about that (installing an independent coach). That's not for me to worry about. I'm not concerned about that side of it."

Full-back Jarryd Hayne is another Bellamy fan.

"Of course (he should stay on). He's a great coach," Hayne said. "He puts his heart and soul into everything he does."

"He's a fabulous coach."

But Hayne admitted NSW had hit rock bottom after surrendering for the fifth straight year – the worst run of outs in Origin's 30-year history.

"We're at an all-time low at the moment," he conceded.

"They've won five series in a row and are a good team and we've got to do something to turn that around."

Give Ricky the job next year...we need a stand alone coach for NSW, with no other worries throughout the year and there focus on origin...How can you expect bellamy to be fully commited to NSW when half his star players play for Qld...

Exactly. Not to mention how passionate he is.

We need to cut players, because I think alot of them are thinking they don't have to play well because they're going to be selected on reputation rather than form.

Bellamy needs to go first of all.
