Socceroos defender Harry Souttar finally got his move, he’s off to Sheffield United in the Championship. Long overdue after being mainly frozen out a year ago by Leicester, making only three appearances last season. Its only a season long loan move at this stage but they’ll likely buy him outright if he impresses.

This is huge for the Socceroos, he’a such a key player for us and we NEED him playing regular first team football.

Big move coming for Matilda’s defender Clare Hunt (used to play for the Wanderers in the A-League). She’s about to join Tottenham from PSG.
Isn’t that a downgrade?

Tottenham….

It sucks that I have to like Tottenham now (with Ange there) and now another Aussie for the women’s team too

Two changes to the Socceroos squad for the WCQ’s against China and Japan.
Mass Luongo and Connor Metcalfe are out due to injury. Patrick Yazbek and Luke Brattan are in.

Tony Popovic won his 1st game as Socceroos coach, that is rather positive for us. Why are the media still being negative towards us after we win haha? It was only China but at least we played a bit more positively compared to how we played when Arnold was in charge. We probably would have lost if Arnold was still in charge haha.

They won but they were awful for a lof of the game. I think people are just looking ahead to the Japan game and realising they will crush us if we put in a similar performance.

Japan 1 Australia 1

Huuuuuuuge point to take away. Almost shithoused our way to the funniest win in Australian Football history, but the meme own goal giveth, the meme own goal taketh away. Well done to our fellas who showed a heap of determination and defended their arses off against a far far far superior opponent in their own backyard.

Well we blew some good chances in this game, even though I thought the Saudis were the better team, Big sigh of relief with the offside given at the death

Yeah, lucky to escape with a point. Saudis defended brilliantly but my god we are missing a cutting edge up front. Duke toils hard, holds up the ball, but he just doesn’t score these days. Great to see Caceres get a long belated Socceroos cap, I thought he made a big difference to that midfield when he came on. Also, Hrustic hurt again. 🤦‍♂️😫

Thank **** China beat Bahrain, that keeps us in second. Just.

Yea we shouldn't be scraping by the skin of our teeth when it comes to WC qualification.

We should be getting in directly/auto without having to go through knock out/play off stages which I think we have the last few campaigns due to poor results in group stages.

Asia was supposed to provide us an easier path to the WC and while the quality and competitiveness of teams in Asia is on the rise for sure there are still teams we should be putting away and not struggling so much against if we are for real.

Socceroos seem plagued by the same problem we have had for as long as I can remember going back decades, we can play well enough to create multiple chances but do not have the quality to finish them alongside a mentality of looking to pass or hold the ball instead of going for goal and taking a shot.

We produce workers, physical players that can run and tackle all day but are not the most technically gifted which playing as a team can work but we still need some good strikers in that final third of the field to captilise all the build up, especially against top teams that won't present as many chances in and around the box.

There were exceptions when it came to reliably delivering goals at international level like Cahill but he carried us for too long.

I agree that we shouldn’t be struggling so bad as a nation to qualify, but when you look at our team it’s pretty bleak
