First point of contact clean but hit him so hard bloke head butted the shoulder. Still counts as high of course but may not be so bad if deemed first contact is fine

That hit was even better than Chad's molestation of Ponga.

If a few teeth had exited the building I'd have given it 10/10

That’s actually ****ed. Was a great hit, didn’t tuck the arm, didn’t actually make initial contact with the head it was only the impact that forced the players head forward. His fist was also open and not closed so couldn’t even be a reckless charge.

I have no idea how he is getting a suspension ....

Just one week can we run out with something close to our full strength squad.

Graham, Tolman back this week. Meh.

When’s Katoa back? He would have finished 3 of those tries. Still in a brace at the game so a few weeks you’d assume.

Ronnie?

Hunt?

Hopefully Johnson calms down a bit next game. You could tell he was nervous and tried to do too much. Can’t blame him though.

Not one commentator mentioned that and i thought it was pretty obvious. I’m sort of ok with the sin bin because of the forced hia, but 4-6 weeks is a joke, they need to fight it.

Theres a difference between a shoulder charge and a big hit, his arm was outstretched which is perfectly legal, not tucked. This sort of tackle happens at least a dozen times in every game - the only reason he is being charged is because it was so ****ing powerful, that bloke got hit by a car. Its up there with the biggest hits ive ever seen. If anything its almost leading with the head, and if he stepped late and wore talakais forehead, he probably would have died.

The right lawyers could definitely get it reduced, legal point of contact, fair argument arm was prepped to wrap

I just saw the tackle. Anyone who says that’s not a shoulder charge is kidding themselves. Crazy to challenge that.

Four weeks it is.

You don’t reckon it was a shoulder charge HB? I watched it three times and I couldn’t see where he was wrapping his arms around the player.

I agree four weeks is harsh but not worth challenging it if he ends up getting six.

His shoulder makes contact with the head so he will do time.
A shoulder charge is charged as a full on shoulder charge IF the tacklers arm is tucked.
Talakai’s wasnt, his arm wasn’t in a wrapping motion as you pointed out, it’s a matter of us trying to make the best of a chargeable tackle.

If any forceful contact with the shoulder is a shoulder charge then everyone will just have to play grab.
Arm wasn’t tucked and didn’t turn shoulder into him, was front on with arm out to wrap (if player hadn’t been launched away).
Contact with head still an issue though, even if accidental.

Anyone know why it is 6 weeks?

Did he have loading from previous offences?

Grade 3 Shoulder Charge = 500 points (5 weeks). Early plea should be 375 (3 weeks)

Found it. He copped a $550 fine for a Grade 1 contrary conduct in the semi last year. No carry over points.

So the charge will be 500 points + 100 points (20% loading for one unrelated offence in the last 12 months)

- Grade 3 = 600 points
- Early plea = 450 points

If they contested the grading
- Grade 2 = 420 points (350 + 70)
- Early plea = 315

... so downgrading would make it 3 weeks instead of 4.
