Happy for Iro on bench but I think Sifa needs to go back to centre. He's been on of our best
Fair, but with having Sifa on the bench, it just gives us a bit more flexibility through the forward pack as well.

Just until we get a few more back…

Iro was fantastic. I think he just about proved he belongs in this arena and doesn't need more cup time. I'd be okay with him getting 10 or so games off the bench to see how it goes. Kinda like the Atkinson role tonight, but also a Mr fix it if we have any outside back injuries, or forward injuries where Sifa can move.

Simply can't move Sifa after how good he started though. Need to find some space for both.

Said it in the pre-season. Has played his way ahead of Hiroti to next man in.

Where is Hiroti btw?

Other than showing that in general Sifa's defense is mostly better than last season (mostly..) I didn't think much of his game in the second row.

Granted he had to make more tackles than usual but 7 runs for 36 metres is so far down on his usual output I had to check it twice.

The theory of moving him closer to the middle or playing him from the bench might be bit of a bust if he can't dominate his opposite players and rack up those running & post contact metres like he does further out.

Yea Iro got 135 meters and all but Sifa is a 150-200m per game kinda guy and so good at setting up Ronnie. Up against the bigger bodies he just isn't as effective. The bloke needs some space and momentum which an edge affords (a sliding and retreating defense also helps).

Sifa also had 2 handling errors

I will cut him some slack as he doesn't play much in the forwards these days and I doubt he asked the coach to be played there. TBF Wiltons numbers were not alot better.

Talakai basically became a non factor and making him a bench middle won’t fix that.

It’s great he can cover these positions but significantly detracting from him just to play Iro is cutting your nose to spite your face.

If we lose our off contract 3rd best centre so be it.
Vea’ila will be ready right when we want him.

I agree with all of the above, we'd be fine if we we lose Iro.

My only counter is that I believe there's some great value for the side that sits in getting cheaper outside backs through on early contracts. You could be looking at a 300k difference between Iro and one of our starting centres. If he could do 80-90% of the job from the get go, that sort of money can be applied elsewhere. If you managed to do this in two positions you've got cash for a pretty decent upgrade somewhere, assuming one becomes available...
