Carney has told friends he's open to becoming a Rabbitohs player. At the same time, however, he's also concerned about the Redfern club's reputation for strict behavioural rules that might lead to more broken promises.

At the very least, Carney is now mature enough to realise this has been his downfall - not drinking, per se. He needs a strong mentor and there's none better than Wayne Bennett at Newcastle, which could squeeze Carney into their 2012 squad on match payments and then backload for future seasons.

Am I the only one who thinks this statement is a crock of ****?

The bit that I don't get is that the Sharks Development is something that everyone here can, in their own way, see through to approval and realisation and ensure the ongoing survival and sustainability of the Sharks.

Realistically, not one post in this thread is going to have any impact whatsoever in whether the Sharks do or don't sign Todd Carney.

Sorry to burst your bubbles folks but that is the cold, hard reality of the situation.

However, it would seem that when people are given real and tangible ways to support and sustain the very survival of the Club then they're remarkably otherwise occupied or distracted by fantasy and whim.

If anyone here wants to ensure that there is, in fact, a Sharks! Sharks! FOREVER! then you must all do your bit to assist in getting this proposal through.

Visit the Development Thread and asks yourself what you can do to help save your Club.

Thats all well and good Fitz but this particular discussion is not about the development. I have been throught the threads on here and the CSSC forums and am attending the info night next week. So I don't need to read it again in other forums that are supposed to be on a completely different topic.

I read and comment in this thread about the rumours circulating about Carney.

there is no way in hell he is an alcoholic

Not sure it is as easy to answer as that. While he is not getting pissed every night and stumbling around the street he also cannot give up drinking even though it has now cost him 2 jobs and has threatened to numerous times before.

I enjoy a drink every now and then but if it was risking my job I would have no hesitation in giving it up. It must be asked why Carney either cannot or will not...

Not everyone is like that sadly, one of my mates has already lost over 10 jobs due to the drink.

alcoholism

a chronic disorder characterized by dependence on alcohol, repeated excessive use of alcoholic beverages, the development of withdrawal symptoms on reducing or ceasing intake, morbidity that may include cirrhosis of the liver, and decreased ability to function socially and vocationally.

Classifying if someone is "depedant" can be quite subjective but I would say Carney is more of a typical young bloke enjoying a social life and suffering from the mistakes that come with it.

I think there remains a big difference between people who get some negative issues arise around their drinking and persons with the actual disease of alcohism which as Snowy said wouldn't facilite someone playing elite sport.

Getting pissed and stuffing up doesn't make you one otherwise alot of people would fall into that catergory.

I think the guy is arrogant and apathetic as much as he is a drinker.

There's American alcoholism and real alcoholism.

If it was an American TV show Carney would be an alco.

In reality he is far from it.

Calling Carney an alchohlic is a complete farce in my opinion.

Its a fair bet that he has never woken up and had a beer first thing in the morning because his body is dependant on it.

He just has little self control or will power not to give in to his usual tendancies.

I was drinking with an alco one day who claimed that the true definition of an alco was someone who, once they start drinking, can't stop. They don't necessarily to need to neck a case for breakfast, there are varying degrees of alcoholism.

I'd question the mental strength of a person who can't give up drinking, or severely cut back, when given an ultimatum and a six figure contract. Booze ain't all that.

I don't rate Sandow, but TBH if they couldn't win it with their squad this year, let alone finish above 8th, they won't be winning it within the next 5 years anyway.

WTF are the mighty Blue n Golds going to do now that some clown that calls him\herself Dan-ce doesn`t rate Sandow?

Let my guess, Chad Townsend and Scott Porter are both super stars in your little mind.
