dont you have your own voice?

Bit rich coming from you. However, there is a reason behind my comment. Take some time and work it out if you like, then again, I forgot you have a direct line to those in high place's. Maybe I should just look at what you reckon, if only you weren't wrong a hell a lot more then you are right.

I'll spell it out for you. Iron and Fitz have close ties to the club, I dare say that their opinion will be somewhat on the money as to what the club is doing, more so then people like yourself who just make **** up. Now if either come back and say they are pleased with the Carney idea, I would think that the club is truly entertaining the thought. However, it is most probably a fruitless exercise as I doubt either of them would let the cat out of the bag. They both appear a hell of lot smarter then that.

It was really that simple(ton).

YES - sign him- Do not impose and drinking ban on him that is just stupid, tell him he is allowed to drink however anything bad happens from that he is gone, however unfortuntely 99 times out of 100 something is going to go wrong with him since the media will be on him.

OOOOOOOHHHH NOOOOO he got in a cab after a night out with team mates at Carmens, lets make it front page!!!! (I did see Stapo, Mitch Brown, Bronx and Frego there once on a saturday night after a game we lost im pretty sure lol)

I would be happy to have him in the squad... It's a toss of the coin really as to whether he works or fails ... We havslalom to loose as our rep has been through the mud over the last few years however ... If managed properly... An for the right amount of coin it could be some what of a coup for the club....

An let's be real about it.. We aren't going to get a quality back for next year an carney would be as beneficial to us as a gun centre or winger..

Gals opinion should be key in the decision as it's his team

I'm personally happy with what ever decision the club comes to.

Even though I personally don't want the club to recruit Carney, if they do I will still be happy with the decision, as I will assume that they've done their due diligence and have come to the correct decision. I would never presume to know more than the club or know what's best for the club more than Irvine.

Just thought I'd make that club.

No. He is a deadset idiot who will drag the team down with him. It takes more than just pure talent to win games of football.

if the media can be trusted, gal and flanno want him, irvine says no...
fair call...

but, alot of things going wrong with the sharks is a stemming flow from poor on field performances.
alot of games this year our halves had enough pill to win 2 games, yet we lost won

carney wont be a saviour, know, but anyone who can get bj leilua to score tries on the wing has something going for him

he also made SKD into one of the best centers in the game, this year, SKD has been just as ordinary as todd

hopefully todd could turn pom into a try scoring machine :p

On the 8th August Phil Rothfield randomly tweets:

BuzzRothfield Phil Rothfield
Kelly to Gallen to CARNEY to Pomeroy to Gardner .... TRY. Sharks 2012 premiership winning outfit #upupcronulla #goyougoodthings

Followed by:

BuzzRothfield Phil Rothfield
Our chairman @damianirvine just texted me - Sharks not interested in Todd Carney

The Chairman then tweets:

damianirvine Damian Irvine
@
@BuzzRothfield To be fair, you texted me to ask if we were, I replied " no mate":)

Today, Phil Rothfield writes an article:

Todd Carney

Cronulla are hoping to meet with bad boy Todd Carney and his agent David Riolo this week.

The ace up their sleeve is the game's most improved character - Cronulla skipper Paul Gallen. There would be no better bodyguard or mentor in rugby league than the NSW State of Origin captain.

Gallen's reputation was almost as badly trashed as Todd Carney's several years ago.

He's now one of the most respected figures in the NRL.

Gallen has gone from being probably the most hated player in the game to the most appreciated.

Could Cronulla get Todd Carney back on track with his rugby league career? Post a comment at the bottom of the page.

I spoke to Gallen a few weeks ago about getting Carney aboard. He's keen and he wants to help the kid.

Sharks coach Shane Flanagan wants him too.

They've now got to convince their chairman Damian Irvine that it's a risk worth taking

Now I know Rothfield has written all sorts of dribble over the years but on this occasion, it would seem that he has got an agenda at hand. His credibility has always been a bit suss but sometimes he just seems to not engage his brain before opening his mouth.

Sure he may want Todd Carney to come to the Club. That's his opinion and as they say, "opinions are like arsëholes - everyone's got one."

I have my opinions on Todd Carney too as does everyone here. That doesn't make them either right or wrong - they're just opinions.

As far as I'm concerned, the recruitment for the Club is in the hands of Shane Flanagan and Darren Mooney who are then reportable to the Board that employs them. If Flanagan and Mooney want to employ Carney, they'll need to have a pretty good case to argue to the Board that this is an intelligent, prudent and responsible appointment.

In some ways I'd like to see Todd Carney in a Sharks jumper but that is in the jumper only for 80 minutes of football a week during the league season.

I don't want him at an official function mingling with sponsors, politicians, journalists, or doing school and community visits or all those other sorts of ambassadorial jobs that are required of a modern NRL player. Could you confidently rely on Todd to turn up at a school at 9:30 in the morning to address a school assembly and not be hungover? Could you have him at a sponsor's lunch and trust him not to get on the turps and make a goose of himself?

Let's face it... you have to be pretty messed up to be run out of your own town and banned from re-entry for 2 years by a Magistrate. We're not talking about somebody who like a drink or two. We're talking about someone who gets on the grog and gets out of control.

It is naive to say that a Club can manage Todd Carney when clearly he can't even manage himself. There's just way too many caveats, promises and assurances that he will have to make to the Club. Likewise, it is naive to think that somebody can "fix" Todd Carney. There is only one person that can fix Todd Carney and that is Todd Carney.

At this particular point in the Club's history, the Club needs to maintain its focus on the bigger issue at hand - the survival and success of the Club. What the Club doest NOT need is to be playing nursemaid and media janitor to a player that chooses to behave in a way that abrogates his responsibility to his employer and to the community that supports him.

For mine, it's a NO to Todd Carney... and a big facepalm to that goose Rothfield - leave the Sharks recruiting to the guys in charge and stop playing silly-buggers by abusing your journalist's privileges.
