No worries, I knew it.... just making the point that Covell is the second best that "they can recall". Not necessarily the second best ever.

Personally I rated a guy called Ray Corcoran my second best (after Mat Rogers) but he isnt even mentioned. He's certainly the most EXCITING we've ever had and scored 63 tries in 108 games. Compare those stats with Covell (55/131) and also bear in mind Corcoran played at a time when we were easybeats much of the time.

How about Eion Crossan, Jarred Anderson, Nick Zisti or Nick Youngqest (has gone onto bigger and better things)

I was always a fan of Craig Diamond. Big and strong and I am sure he played a few games on the wing before moving into the forwards.

I know the above are not top 2 but food for thought :)

We were too busy "mustering" back rowers over 48 years rather than wingers (after all... wingers are defined as "Guys who like to hang around with footballers").

Actually I'm really looking forward to seeing the names put forward for Sharks Top Back Rowers (or Lock/Second Rowers... whichever way they decide to go) because though St George has us covered for wingers down the years (their 94 years and our 48 years) I think we can at least match them for back rowers - after Raper and Provan of course (all time greats).

Just to throw up a few names by way of examples.... Gavin Miller (twice Dally M medalist) , Steve Rogers (Australian Test Captain, Rothmans Medallist at centre but also Dally M medallist as lock) Greg Pierce (Australian Test Captain) Ken Maddison (Rothmans medallist) Kurt Sorensen, Paul Gallen, David Hatch, Greg Bird, John Maguire, Dan Stains and John Davidson for starters.

Can't remember if he played prop or second row, but Michael Wicks, possibly the craziest son of a bitch to play the game.
