I'll toss in Barry Russell and John O'Connor. Except for injuries, John could have been a long time player. Was fantastic when his shoulders were OK.

Not having a go at anyone or the poll, but I think there's a lot of room for people to know more about the history of our Club and the story so far. My knowledge is certainly sketchy at best.

Perhaps something for the Club to look at in the lead up to the 50 year anniversary.

That's exactly why I have posted not just my opinions on each position so far, but also a synopsis of the strengths of each of the 4 or 5 main candidates. So younger fans can at least have an idea of what the earlier players were like rather than them just be names to them. Especially the legends.

Imagine a 19 yo who wants to join his mates and vote here but has limited knowledge of past players. He could be considering voting either Michael Gordon or Nathan Gardner best fullback purely because they are the only 2 he has known. He has no data or insight into the others from earlier. He's thinking "We must've had better than these two...but who?"

Once informed he can still decide for himself, but may think "Oh wow... didn't realise we had a fullback as awesome as (Peachey/ Pierce / Docking / Whoever )" and feel happier about changing his final vote.

There are several Sharks players who were among the world's elite... the "best ever" in their positions. Tommy Bishop and Steve Rogers are two examples.... yet both could easily find themselves as footnotes in this vote. Just as young cricket fans have heard of Don Bradman and are aware of his amazing 99.94 batting average in test cricket, voters here should have some availability to the stats and performances of our club's superstars.

Just my opinion.

Unfortunately, we haven't had a Wally Lewis, Johns, Daley, Cronk, Sterling, Cherry Evans etc. in the 48 year history of the club. Probably the main reason we haven't got a p'ship under the belt. I don't rate Kimmorley highly in his tenure with us. Will have to go with Tommy Bishop and Barry Russell. We have had quite a few capable halves, but none being consistently outstanding. Even Russell's career was hampered by injury, so he couldn't play at his best for much of his time here. Todd was never on the paddock that much for us, or was playing injured often. He could have been the answer, but we all know what happened there.

Sorry but Tommy Bishop was every bit as good a player as all of those aside from probably Johns and Lewis. He was also captain of England at a time when they dominated us and he got a team of kids (aside from himself and Cliff Watson) to the grand final. The fact Manly beat us was due to one amazing man being superior to anything we had at the time.

That man was Bobby Fulton and he was named one of the original 4 Immortals of the game.

That's why we don't have a premiership from 1973.... one Robert Fulton!

I personally think Steve Rogers was the best ALL-ROUND player I've ever seen. But.... I didn't see Raper nor Churchill play and Gasnier was injured badly and retired soon after I started watching the game.

In the 1973 Grand Final Steve Rogers (who had a great game) did play, but he was an 18 yo kid.
