Didn't get the chocolates mate. Lost 14-6. It was 10-6 for almost the entire second half, and the other guys got a (very dubious) try with about 3-4 minutes to go and put it to bed.

Ref was absolutely ****-house, but our boys had their chances and didn’t take them. We came up with really simple errors on tackle 1 or 2 the first five times we got inside their 20. Our best forward went off hurt after 20 minutes with the score at nil-all, so that was pretty big factor too.

All in all it was a pretty good season for the boys. The team who beat us has been together for 4 years. In our team no more than any 4 kids knew each other back in February, and 1/3 of our team were first year players.

Imo both our team and theirs belonged in a higher division (we both beat 3rd place by 50+). Being put in a low div was a big factor in us getting the arse-end of the reffing stick.

The way it works here is they go Div1, Div2, and then kinda randomly sort teams in to 4 lower divs. 2 for Northside and 2 for Southside. We got put in “Southside 4” even though we beat a team in Div3 by 50+, and also beat the grand-finalists from 3 in a trial when we only had 11 players. Dirty play aside, I was actually really glad there was another decent team in our comp. If they hadn’t been equally screwed over like us and put in our comp, we win the GF by 50.

We belong in 2 next year. Should have been there this year (but we wouldn’t have sniffed the finals). I’m not keen on coaching in the lowest div again. It’s too hard watching refs ignore dangerous play. I can’t handle it.
Klein / Butler weren't reffing were they?

Unlucky mate, although definitely sounds like your boy's made a cracking effort throughout the year with some of the stuff you had go against you and should be proud of themselves.

That sucks about how the division are set up and hope to hear you do get moved up next year and all your boy's can stick together for a few years mate

Thanks mate. I don’t actually think it’s the setup. Just the one bloke who decides it has NFI.

One example… there are two teams who started in Div1, got dropped to 2, and finished bottom 4. It’s supposed to go on your trial results, but it obviously doesn’t. You just call up old mate and tell how good you think your team is. If he hasn’t heard of you, stiff ****.

All of the “we’ll known” junior clubs have div1 teams no matter how good they are. They like to have the prestige of saying they have Div1 whether their team is actually any good or not.

My old club had a div1 u15’s last year who conceded over 1000 points and scored less than 50. They refused to drop them down because “having a div1 team at the club attracts players”.

The idea of sorting by the method they use is fine IF they actually put the right teams on the right places.

I'm imaging you saying this with a Powerade bottle in front of you. We need a stupid question to make it complete... "and did you feel that the refs decided the game?"

You looking at coaching there again in a higher division? Is that an option?

Jets v Bulldogs is the live stream game. 3pm Saturday.

Jets are 1st.
Panthers are 2 points behind, have a better f/a, and have a bye.
Bulldogs are 3rd

NSW Cup is top 5. First place gets the week off and only needs to win one game to make the GF.

So...

Win (or draw) and get the week off and easy path the the GF, or
Lose and play the Bulldogs again next week in a 2v3 non-elimination final
When did NSW Cup change to top 5?

It's not really "coach a higher division team" as such. It's more that I would like to continue coaching this same team, but I only want to coach them if they are put in the appropriate division where the refs know the rules and protect them. I don't have any confidence that will happen, and I can't live through another year of my kids get belted high, dropped on their heads, kicked, dragged, slung and collared while the ref does nothing.

The ref in our GF allowed the opposition to drag kids along the ground, to jersey sling them to the ground, and to lift in tackles and drop players face-first into the ground. When my captain queried the ref at half time he said "lifting is allowed as long as you don't go past horizontal". The league gave us a ref in a GF that flat out doesn't know the rules. It's not good enough.

The way the league (and most punters) see it is... All Div1 teams are better than all Div2 teams, who are better than all Div3 teams, who are better than all Div4 teams. If you can't win the Div4 grand final, then you can't be very good and you would get smashed by the teams "above you".

In actuality... the two teams who contested the Div4 GF are better than all of the Div3 teams, and both were good enough to play in (but not win) Div2 this year... but good luck getting the league (or anyone else) to see it that way.

Chances are no-matter what happens in the trials next year, my team ends up in Div3 or Div4 next year and goes through another year of playing **** teams and winning by 40+ every week, except in games where the ref is an obvious cheat our key players get taken out by un-penalised head shots.

Whew. Sounds like there's no part of it that isn't a mess. I feel for you mate. I get that you'd want to look after the kids and keep on the journey with them. But that'd be too much for me to take, so I totally get it.

Jets side looking a bit rough, which is unfortunate given that they're playing for the minor premiership.

Hiroti kicked penalty to level it 22-22 in the final seconds. Jets get the minor premiership. Wow.
