I do wonder if Flanno has it in him to adapt to the modern game. I know he hasn't been out of it for long, but it has changed and he played a very particular style.

Getting Flanno back would be a BAD, BAD move.

Morris is still trying to clean up the roster mess Flanno left behind.
If Morris ends up getting the bullet this year, then go for Fitzgibbon, or failing that Ciraldo.
Move forwards, not backwards.

The SMH article gives a glimmer of hope that sanity will prevail with Dino :

Flanagan has plenty of support on the board, but the Herald understands chief executive Dino Mezzatesta is opposed to bringing him back to the club he led to premiership glory in 2016.

Also i reckon the Storm to be sounding out ol choppers.

You'd think he'd sign there as an assistant for the year if that was going to happen. Him and Bellamy are mates right? So could probably work under him for a year if he thought it was lining him up to take over.
Otherwise I guess they try bring Ryles back when Bellamy will be quitting.

Not extending JMo only to bring in another rookie, after the roster has been cleaned up, would be idiotic.

Was going to say the same thing. Sure, they’ve been understudy for some good brains, but so has Morris and Morris has 2 finals under his belt already.

Supposedly, but he's bugged out to Yawnyon, so not convinced.

Only signed a one year deal I thought ?

If Bellamy sticks around in some sort of coaching director role then having a Bellamy trained coach makes the transition pretty smooth.

Already familiar with structures, players, staff... Would make more sense than bringing in Fitzy or Ciraldo

I’m thinking if Bellamy goes the Storm will promote within or who has been part of their system recently

Re Flano, meh.

Yes, our only coach in history to win a premiership but he has also be banned by the NRL twice in his time with us & left a s%#t fight of a mis managed salary cap which has effectively taken 2 yrs to start to fix. I

Pretty funny we might punish Bomber for not being able to work magic with a rebuilding team in a bad cap spot by bringing back the dude who created the problem.

Hopefully we keep Morris, but a lot of that depends how the players perform this year. We’ll see how badly they really want to play for him. Only concern I have is that SJ is out, he’s quite key to what we do. I think Morris deserves a year with the full salary cap to work with

We absolutely shouldn't be judging Morris on the results early on. Take the best player out of any team and they won't achieve expectations. If we improve in defense considerably and compete for everything i'm convinced he's our guy.

Surely we're past the Flanno era. I love what he was able to do, but we're on such a positive path on and off the field that I can't imagine anyone wanting to revisit the past

the storm would never get behind someone who has cheated, oh wait....

i know it looks bad for our club and sets us back somewhat but I would take another 2 Flanno bans if it meant another x1 premiership in the bag - **** the haters who say we cheated, we got caught doing what most clubs would do

doing the right thing puts you at a disadvantage unfortunately. it seems the rules are there to be bent

Was going to say the same thing. Sure, they’ve been understudy for some good brains, but so has Morris and Morris has 2 finals under his belt already.

who was Morris understudy to? wasnt Jim Dymock still the 2IC untill Flanno left and Morris took over?

Not extending JMo only to bring in another rookie, after the roster has been cleaned up, would be idiotic.

agree massive no to Cilrado or Fitz unless Morris has a shocker and we get really desperate. For me their are only 2 options, retain Morris or sign an experienced established proven coach

I do wonder if Flanno has it in him to adapt to the modern game. I know he hasn't been out of it for long, but it has changed and he played a very particular style.

him being under the dragons last season is a good thing - surely learnt a thing or 2 about the new game. doubt we get 2016 Flanno ball under him again but on the other hand he might try to strike lighting twice - but he doesn't have the players to execute it anymore. i doubt he would bring immediate success, it would be a season or 2 to start getting the benefit of Flanno again. i like that he is still hungry for success

Agree, seems to be, and is not right. Hope he gets 50% wins while Johnston out, to stick it up the whiteanters.

Also i reckon the Storm to be sounding out ol choppers.

but but some media experts say we will get the spoon...

plus Morris needs 51% to keep his job - breaking even is what he did last season. even just a positive F/A will be an improvement

It's not really a twist if people just made it up and it has been refuted...

so apparantly Flanno wanted his son out of cronulla but now he takes McCinnes under his wing and sends him to Cronulla - he either hates him or has had a change of heart OR he just really rates his son and thinks he deserves a big role / contract

Hopefully we keep Morris, but a lot of that depends how the players perform this year. We’ll see how badly they really want to play for him. Only concern I have is that SJ is out, he’s quite key to what we do. I think Morris deserves a year with the full salary cap to work with

agree on that but barring the SJ injury this is the best coaching / club/ squad/ cap conditions Morris will be under thus far and his best chance to impress and show what he can do with this club and squad, also more pressure with not having a contract though and all the external chatter

Morris has done an admirable job but he should never be considered irreplaceable - the coaching game is one he signed up for. but i would love him to stay on as an assistant if Flanno or the like were to ever take over. Morris is young, he has plenty of time to land a future head coach gig here or elsewhere. head coaching at a bad club won't do him many favours beyond some experience

@Gards, understudy was probably a poor choice of words. AC or not, I still think that being around Flanno would have only helped Bombers development as a coach.

Disagree - Fitzgibbon has served the best apprenticeship in the game under Trent Robinson, and can actually coach defence.

I'm not deathriding Morris yet, as he's still cleaning up Flanno's mess, and has been great with the juniors ... but if results don't fall his way this year, and the board decides to look elsewehere .. then go with a coach who's actually familiar with what works under the new rules. And that is not Flanno !!!

Being an AC is very different to being a HC, especially at a club that has unlimited resources.
