The extended Porter family is well entrenched in the Shire. I'm not sure where Scott specifically fits in to the family tree though.

I think he's always been from Cronulla, having played for cronulla caringbah throughout all his club days.

Canterbury hope to nab Mossop next time

Meanwhile, Cronulla coach Ricky Stuart has assured halfback Scott Porter he still has a future at the Sharks despite his prospects of an NRL recall looking slim with the club's acquisition of Tim Smith.

Porter, who in round one played a day after the death of his sister, was dropped to the NSW Cup and replaced by John Morris for Monday night's defeat to South Sydney. He remains in the second-tier this weekend with Smith slotting straight in for tonight's match against Parramatta.

Stuart met Porter this week, following confirmation of Smith's signing, to tell him he still had a role to play.

''Scotty Porter hasn't been thrown out to the wolves,'' Stuart said. ''Scotty Porter will be there and he'll be putting pressure on Timmy and the other halves as they do. That's what it's like at a first-grade level - you've got to have people putting pressure on one another because it makes you compete at the top level.''

I'll admit, having him is good for depth and if Tim Smith plays like he did at Wigan (bad from reports) then we will need him. But it still sucks for him as he has gone from first choice halfback to 2nd or 3rd after 3 rounds so that is ****.

I watched him against Windsor and her and Lewis were in great form and had a great partnership.
