Just wondering how much cap people think we still have available next year? I think at this stage we should assume the following:
1. Topou staying same money.
2. Gorden signed.
3. Graham upgraded.
4. Kelly gone.
5. The following players aren't yet re-signed: Best, Cordoba, I.Gorden, Leutele, Morris, Peach, Stapleton and Williams.
6. No salary cap increase.
If we don't resign any of the players still off contract I've come up with around
$850,000 left.
In saying that I think we should keep peach and one of stapelton, Williams or I Gorden which I think will leave us around $650,000. Obviously just a guess. Thoughts?

From all reports there will definitely be a salary cap increase next season, it's just a matter of how much which will depend on the Rights deal.

Just as a guess I've come up with 2 mill from those players plus AK's contract.

I'm guessing wade is atleast 250k
gordon atleast 350k
toops 420k

about 980k by my rough calculations. Going off who I think will be re signed

best 200k
gordan 120k
leutele 60-80k
peachey- 80k
stapleton 120k

close to 400k left.

I'm pretty sure that when the cap goes up there are clauses in players new contracts that their salary's also go up based on the percentage of the cap increase.
I dont really see the cap going up helping us secure more players, I think its just going to keep our current ranks happy.

The only ones I would want re-signed would be Ike, Stapo and/or Williams between them and mills we have wing spots covered + depth and also have Gardner as depth for fullback, maybe also re-sign peach to play utility, IMO that leaves plenty of bank to throw at Jennings!

I think everyone is forgetting we got Carney on a cheap deal for 2012. There will be a substantial increase required there for 2013 and beyond.

FFS we don't have a choice regarding Toops this year. What's done is done, move on.

I thought it was that we have 300k cap space at the moment after removing the added extras to Carneys contact.

Your living in the dark ages Matty, loyalty is dead. You keep players who can make you a premiership force.
Morris and Williams got deals with us when no one else wanted them and better players wouldnt sign with us. Hardly loyalty, it was a lack of choice on both sides. Now its time to move on from those guys and continue to raise the standard in the squad.

players who put 150% each week, players who bleed black, blue n white!

Regardless of what you think of him as a player, you're kidding if you don't think JMO gives anything but 100%.

If Besty is still performing towards the back end of this season, why not resign for another......though Im sure he'd be happy to sign on at the money youre offering!
Methinks hell be offered around the dough youve got Stapo on, in which case Id be surprised if he didn't rethink retirement!

The sad reality is thus:

- We apparently have 300k this year.
- Carneys price apparently goes up 300k next year. So back to zero.
- Cap apparently going up 600k next year, sweet we have 600k to play with now.
- We signed Gordon. Probably on 300k. So 300k left.
- Graham would have been upgraded.

Looks like we have maybe 300k to spend next year. If you look at players off contract think of it that you can use 300k to upgrade them. So 300k may be enough to upgrade Best to Jennings, but not be able to upgrade anyone else (either retain or replace with a player on the same money).

Best case scenario IMO we have one upgrade left in us at best. Hopefully we'll be using that to upgrade Best, or retain Best and upgrade one or two wingers.

Just thinking, worst case scenario we've been subsidised for guys like De Gois, Taufua, Gibbs and Fifita for this year and next year will have to pay them more too, and we're out of money altogether.
