Walked past verlinden after the game. I'm 6 foot 2 and 105kgs. F**k he made me look like a midget. No wonder he can break through tackles like he can. Im am starting to become a real fan of his. Cant wait until he plays fg, I think he will be a crowd favourite. Does anyone know much about him?

Is this Verlinden guy the bloke from Iceland who got injured a while back? He was a big unit from memory.

No

Verlinden has been impressing Sticky but I have been told he will not play 1st grade this year it has to do with the $$$$$ and his contract and the Sharks financial situation

Thats a shame. It would of been good to give him a run this season, especially because of where we are sitting on the table. He could of replaced Selmes.

I attended the Members forum at the club tonight and the question was put to Ricky regarding Ryan Verlinden and him playing first grade.

Ricky's answer was that while Verlinden had enormous potential, he wasn't quite ready for first grade just yet. He is a big unit and while he could certainly make inroads up the middle he was still working on his defence. By that Ricky didn't mean his tackling technique but the time it took him to make a tackle, get up, run backwards 10 metres and be ready to tackle again. He just isn't quick enough at first grade standard to do this. But Ricky reckons it won't be long before he would be.

See my post in the thread regarding the membership forum.

Isn't that what we need at the moment, forwards dominating up the middle so that our backline can do their bit. Watching verlinden play last weekend I thought that he totally dominated the middle and made a huge difference in defence making quite a lot of tackles. Hopefully, he will get his shot sooner than later.

Shark68 where do you get your info, is it reliable?? It doent match with what what Chad posted and his source is actually coming from our coach Sticky!!!

Saw the game, a pretty good result in wet conditions. A bit of drop ball by both sides but our defense was outstanding. A great win against the competition leaders. I thought verlinden, caine and brad barrett were stand outs. We signed Broderick Wright (a prop) from Wentworthville for next year and I didnt see anything special from him and I thought he would be biggger (verlinden played all over the top of him). Is this another dud signing by our club???
Quite a few Sharkies supporters at the game are asking the same question, "When is verlinden going to play first grade????" Caine should also be in fg, he is a great talent. If anyone has not seen verlinden play come out and watch this freak. He breaks the first line of defense nearly everytime he carries the ball and it takes 3,4 or more tacklers to take him down. Amazing!!!

Ricky stated that the only reason Verlinden isn't in FG yet is he defence speed isn't quite up to the NRL standards. But it would be great to see that wrecking ball to come off the bench and rips shreds through teams when there getting tired.

wrong reason

his fitness is so far from NRL standards he wouldnt last 5 minutes in first grade, if he gets fit enough he could become the most damaging impact player we have had in a long long time

Spoke to a couple of fg players before their game today and they reckon that verlinden is making a huge impression on sticky. Saw him play this arvo and he looks the goods. Even after backing up from wednesday nights Residents game, he made good metres up the middle and was difficult to contain and set up a couple of tries with his off loads. He is great to watch.

Brenner i have to agree, he also has quite a bit of speed for a big bloke. And a great offload that set up a few tries. I would like to see him get a first grade call up soon.

i would have to agree with the comment bout him not being quick enough.
his fitness has improved its good to see peachey watches the game u r an idiot give urself and upper cut.

10 weeks ago verlinden was play 10 minute stints, in the last 2 games he has gotten up to 20 25 minute stints. so obviously he has worked hard.

Was reading in the paper today, Verlinden isn't secured for next season.

Surely it would be worth signing him on a incentive based contract? Just in case.

So far I am basically happy to lose anyone we have left unsigned EXCEPT ross, and I would think Verlinden, being he seems to have potential.

Either that or Ricky doesn't think he is worth a contract and if he gets bought isn't concerned?

Just checking and he is in the NSW residents team, so he must be going pretty well

SOS, you say verlinden isnt quick enough. The games I have seen him play he has chased down backs in defense and made ground to make covering tackles that his other forwards have missed. He is definately faster than Donnelly, Norrie, Selmes, Weyman or any other prop I have seen in the nsw cup.

If verlinden gets a go in fg (off the bench), I am sure he would keep up with the pace for 10 - 15 minutes in the latter stages of the first half and then another 10 - 15 stint in the second half, and just like any other player he would get use to the pace of fg with more games under his belt.

yeah shark, got massive wraps on him from the few games ive seen and the stuff i have heard (ricky's thoughts on him), the guy is a beast, carries blokes with such ease, blokes just hang off him when trying to tackle him, different style of gallen

no, give yourself an uppercut sos

the standard of fitness in NSW cup is vastly different to NRL, 20-25 min stints in NSW cup is like 10-15 minutes of NRL pace

Iv'e seen all the nsw cup games this season and Verlinden has been our best forward. I was speaking to his dad after the Windsor game and he informed me much to my shock that Ryan was a 5/8 three seasons ago, he is very moviable for a forward, should reach higher honors in the future.

Simmo gave him a serve after he scored, that was quite amusing
