It was interesting during the Captain's Challenge, Cam and one of the other Sharks saying the tackle was complete.

It's a rule in the official rule book that never seems to get used. It seems like we have been studying a bit. I heard one of our players mention it earlier too.

2. (a) Where opponents do not make a tackle effective in the quickest possible manner but attempt to push, pull or carry the player in possession, it is permissible for colleagues of the tackled player to lend their weight in order to avoid losing ground. Immediately this happens the referee should call “Held”. 2. (b) Where the tackled player is held in an upright position, the ball shall not be played before the referee indicates that the tackle has been effected.

The ref did call "Held", but certainly not immediately.

I think it was a fair call though. He's still gotta hold the ball whether the tackle was complete or not.

Annoying at the time but tohu Harris then later AFB with a cheeky kneeelbow to the ball to dislodge from hunt, just sneaky smart our guys need to learn the craft. I miss the days when it was just Aaron woods running in ripping at the ball then stand there with a classic “dumb face” as the whistle went

he called "Held, held" held" simultaneously. three times...not sure what was going on there
very confusing the decisions that are made

Probably hard to instantaneously cease their pack momentum
And as ref and Proud said, still required to hold the ball

Just looks rough from our end as a) they weren’t obeying ref and b) clearly hands all over it even if decision was they didn’t intentionally do a stripping action.

This same tackle 10 years from now the space bunker will analyse the pressure and fingerprint sensors of the ball and determine of course hands helped that free
All players will retire after the play having had their maximum allowed one involvement to avoid CTE

The problem with being so big and strong is that the defensive pack is going to give you alot of attention and absolutely monster you in gang tackles to keep you on the back foot and forwards love trying to get one over their opposites.

This is where throwing an offload can be a really strong play but our lads seemed focused on getting ready for the next play at the ruck and not keeping the play going (at least on that first offload from what I recall)

Still misjudged from Royce but I hope when they review the game the coach mentions players should be ready for an offload at all times

I definitely remember ref decisions in the past allowing the player to retain possession after they'd lost the ball because held had been called beforehand.

As long as the reading of the rules remains consistent I'm happy.

I liked that Fitz didn't take the bait in the presser when he was pushed on the refs decisions topic.

Although I guess it's easier to do this when you win.

If you offload after held you get it back, any other reason penalty, scrum or turnover is happening.

(I think it’s kind of BS simultaneous offload you get the ball back but simultaneous strip is a penalty - I don’t see why you couldn’t treat these the same)

Ok that makes sense

I would expect that the tacklers would be expected to stop driving when they heard the call. I know that when you're committed in a tackle you can't pull out.

Don’t know the tackle you’re talking about so I might be answering in the wrong content, but, wouldn’t calling held would stop momentum? Helping the attacking team at the expense of good Defense. It would be in the best interest of the attacking players to lend a hand if their team mate was getting driven backwards for the immediate “held” call. I would think you can either 1) lend a hand and the ref calls held when the momentum stops, or 2) if they lend a hand it’s a professional foul.

Play him in nsw cup this week. Tuku deserves another game off the bench.

Coaches don't usually go that way unless Fitz is super pissed off with Hunt or something there is a pecking order.

Personally I would like to give Tuku another go straight away too to see if he can back it up against one of the weaker packs and prob the worst team in the comp + sends a msg to Hunt but Hunt can give us more minutes so depends on other injuries and what we need from the bench this week.

I think with Nikora out you have to bring him back in. I assume Williams will go to second row.
