My Night at Shark Park
Hello fellow Sharks fans!
Well, what a night. One of the best times I have ever had at Shark Park and I almost didn't get there! I've been suffering from the flu for the past fortnight - ever since I walked out of Shark Park from the Knights game actually. It was only at 3pm yesterday afternoon that I decided I was well enough to go. So my apologies to the boys at the Beer Cave, I just thought it best to stay in the ET stand rugged up and not giving anyone else my disease.
When I arrived at Shark Park, I was amazed to see the scoreline in the NYC game. It was 46-10 at the time with around 25 minutes to go. I don't think Manly will be calling any of their NYC boys up for a while so they could be a bit light on for depth. Amazing effort and turnaround from our boys considering the 40-0 spanking from the week before.
I thought the crowd was quite good and even though it was a little empty early on, it looked quite good just before kickoff. I thought we would be lucky to get 5000 fans on a wet Monday night but was surprised by the just on 9000 figure.
Half an hour before the game, the rain came. And it was torrential. I thought, oh no here we go again, but it held off until the first half of the main match. Absolutley loved the giant Shark that the boys ran out onto the field through - it looks huge and menancing! Love to know what everyone else thought of it.
The first set of six was terrific. It got me thinking that the boys were on to something here. Five great sets of metres and a perfectly placed Robson kick at the end of it 10 metres out from their line. As others on here have said, it set the tone for the rest of the game.
Highlights for me from the first half wasn't the tries actually. They were good but not spectactular but at least we took the opportunities. A few bombed again but they will work on that. For me it was the enthusiasm in both attack and defence. For Robson and Carney's first game together it was great and can only get better as they play together more. The defence was brilliant. Jeremy Smith's one on one tackling has to be seen to be believed. He was awesome. Bakuya gets better and better and he has now convinced me that he is the real deal. He runs great lines, he attacks well and he breaks tackles.
Paul Gallen was inspirational. He was superhuman, a colossus, a leader, a man built with an inboard motor. How we are going to cope around Origin time I don't know. We do not have any byes when Origin is on, so we are going to miss him for three games.
I thought Pom and Best were good. Mills despite his defence issues, was still strong and with time he will get better. Loved Wade Graham in the number 13 - he needs to stay there.
I know the rain stayed away and Manly got more ball and decisions go their way in the second half but I am still worried about us not scoring in the second half. We still had chances to score, but didn't show enough to get across the line. Just one try in the second half and we would not have had to worry about that last ten minutes and possible heartache.
Can't wait for the next home game against the Dragons when we smash 'em.
It was great to sing the song again and it was great to see us have a team that is capable of beating the top teams. But we have to do this every week. It all starts again today when we prepare to take on the Cowboys up in Townsville. Not easy at all. We are going to have to do it again and it will be hard.
Up, up Cronulla and here is hoping we can string a few together now. I would like to wipe the smirk of that idiot Ronald M from Redfern's face.
