The Verdict

I thought that in our victories against the Dogs, Titans & Souths during periods of those games that our defence looked vulnerable. Last week though I thought that we really strengthened that part of our game. The Raiders never looked like scoring (we suffered a single line-break) and for the exception of maybe two sets that they got little roll-on in the forwards.

There's a couple of things that I observed of our defence that I believe Flanno's taken from the Dragons. We were largely straight and static in defence and allowed their attack to come to us. It also appeared that our last four edge defenders on either side went on a 45 degree angle and again received their attack and did not go out to them. Another thing I've observed of the Merged Scum's defence is their two marker defenders split and drift back limiting the space behind the ruck and preventing a quick play-the-ball.

I rate Flanagan as an excellent observer of the game; he thus bases a lot of our structure on that basis. Sticky on OWaaT stated that he believes that a team's game is based around the players they have. That's why I think he's churned and burned so many halves at the clubs he's been at and broadly speaking can't coach an attack. An excellent structure is vital and is the reason the Storm have succeeded this year despite the loss of personnel.

In conclusion, our defence has me confident of a favourable outcome tomorrow night. We'll probably cancel each other out in that regard. What I'm hopeful of is that our forwards in having greater talent and penetration will provide us with the necessary points to jag this game :hoping

^^^^ Agreed, like most games, the forwards are critical to winning.

Aggression and intimidation by our pack will let us grind out a tough win. If Scott not playing, I would just run every play at Soward.

Fien not a great half back, he doesn't really worry me, so closing down Soward and Boyd in attack will be crucial.

another thing i just noticed while trolling through my centrebet account and its a good one they no longer have the sharks in their market leaderboard odds to get the spoon. souths at $21 is the highest odds...the titties are $1.70 wonder what they were at the start of the season never like betting on the spoon unless its my usal every year $20 on drags and manly...(one day their salary cap will be questioned) fiiken experts what do they know talked of us as spoon favorites... good work gal flano and others

On that bold bit mate you might wanna be aware that the bookies have changed the wooden spoon market now so that a salary cap points stripping won't affect the market anymore. They now judge it on which side had the most losses throughout the season.

I can't wait for tomorrow night. Gonna be a cracker of a game and my confidence has grown over the weekend but thats more likely due to alcohol than any football insight.

I had a bet with a mate whose a Dragons fan back in round 2 and managed to get an 18pt start out of him. Doubting he's gonna be so generous this time round.

We have a chance of moving into 8th place tomorrow night with a victory. As the table stands now:

7th = Tigers on 20 points with +8
8th = Panthers 20 points -4
9th = Knights 20 points -23
10th = Sharks 18 points -13

If we win by 10, we move onto 20 points with -3 and that puts us in the 8.
