Very dissapointing night, but I'm sick of coming on here and people constantly bagging players. I think from what has been discussed for weeks and weeks and weeks, has been covered substantially enough. I'm not turning a blind eye to it, but this is what happens.

X = Tim Smith played like ****
Y = Yeah, worst player on the field
Z = He's not that bad, he makes an effort

X = Nah but didn't you see when he did this, this and this..
Y = He doesn't deserve to be wearing the jersey
Z = How about "A" player, he played substantially worse than Smith

And it just goes on, and on, and on. I for 1, will not support any argument that states Tim Smith is playing well, but I also am so over hearing about it. Fact, he is in a key role, which with a good performance, can swing a game.

So lets say he played well, and had a few defensive lapses. Call it 18 all after 80 minutes. Would have that been a just scoreline? Does he effect the game THAT MUCH? TBH the whole team looked in another world, and Manly were not even close to playing well in the first half.

It's really testing all of us as supporters at the moment, but get behind the positive things happening with the club and supporter base, if you can't find anything positive to say.

It just seems like we have a bad performance, and people can't wait to jump into the game thread and have a rant.

Sure you can tell me to leave, but how else do you put up with 10+ years of supporting English National Football, Cronulla Sharks & Tottenham Hotspur. Grin and bear it. Take pride in wearing your shirt, and subdue your frustration in other ways than ranting and swearing your nut off on a "supporters forum."

Negativity can only feed on negativity.

Just watching the game now. Didn't realise Juodo was in the team. Why wasn't Flanagan selected ahead of him?

Sharks Should Pay The Fans Back

Sharks Should Pay The Fans Back
BRAD FORREST
20 Jul, 2010 01:30 AM

THE Cronulla Sharks board of directors should dock the wages of their players and coach, and refund the fans who turned up to watch the woeful performance at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night. It shouldn't be too hard for the bankers and accountants. Because they won't be able to refund the supporters their hope. Not in the immediate future, anyway.

It was simply one of the worst performances in the club's 43-year history and certainly the worst first half "effort'' from any Sharks team I've seen over the past 18 years - and this from a club trying to get fans back to the games!

So pathetic was the tackling, that elderly fans joined younger ones on the balcony of the Andrew Ettingshausen stand to boo their team at half-time as the players hurried into the dressing sheds, with Manly leading 36-0. Another thousand or more couldn't stomach any further offerings and stormed out.

It was a rare scene from the normally loyal Sharks supporters. On Sunday, many of those fans turned up to support the Golden Oldies day at Sutherland Oval. A common thread of conversation? Disgust over Sharks' team selections, the non-action after Blake Ferguson's decision to quit the club next season, and why Ricky Stuart should fast-track his decision to quit next year and hand over the coaching reigns to Shane Flanagan.

Certainly, Stuart's team seems to be unprepared, mentally at least, for the rigors of first grade. Too many other first half "crashes'' this season and just five wins alongside a string of losses, many by big margins.

Peter Peters, involved in the brutal 1973 Manly-Sharks grand final, reckons the Sharks need a "complete overhaul'' - just like the Sea Eagles had a few years ago.

Season 2010 is over for the Sharks. Shane Flanagan needs fewer high-priced duds and more committed players for 2011, and plenty of support from his board. Players who don't want to put in should be shifted out, now, and replaced, in the first instance anyway, by some local juniors proud to wear a Sharks jumper (none earned selection on Saturday).

Weekend fans want a Sharks team to cheer for, not a rotting corpse to bury. It will be a case of rebuilding properly ... or start digging.

To be honest when I was watching the first half of the game I was almost excited as I knew it'd be the 'rock bottom' we had to hit for Ricky to walk.

And it happened, and I think it's a good thing personally.

Cronulla's Paul Gallen calls referee Jared Maxwell a "f...ing cheat"

Cronulla's Paul Gallen calls referee Jared Maxwell a "f...ing cheat"
By Dean Ritchie
July 22, 2010 12:00AM

CRONULLA'S 2011 captain Paul Gallen has escaped punishment despite calling referee Jared Maxwell a "f ... ing cheat" during last weekend's match against Manly.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Gallen clashed with Maxwell in the 31st minute with the Sharks being belted 26-0 at Toyota Stadium.

Gallen was penalised and cautioned by Maxwell - but not sin-binned or sent off.

Failure to dismiss Gallen has set an ugly precedent for referees at all levels of rugby league. NRL refereeing officials were furious that Maxwell failed to dismiss Gallen with the drama being discussed at the weekly refereeing debrief on Monday morning.

A shocked Maxwell told Gallen on the field: "Now, I respect your frustration, that's the first point.

"The second point, there is no way in the wide world I'm going to talk to you the way that you just talked to me, that's why you're going to get a penalty [be penalised]."

The NRL match review committee did not issue a charge against Gallen because his words were inaudible on the Fox Sports coverage, but Maxwell knew exactly what the Sharks star said.

With no audio back-up, the review committee felt an on-field penalty was sufficient.

That means Gallen will not be fined, suspended and reprimanded, and he'll be free to play in Cronulla's match against Canberra on Saturday afternoon at Canberra Stadium.

Maxwell will not referee this weekend although NRL referees coach Robert Finch insisted last night he was not sacked but "rested".

Manly players were stunned to hear Gallen's accusation and then see him remain on the field.

At least four times during his record-breaking career, former leading referee Bill Harrigan sent players from the field for dissent.

There were suggestions that fans wearing Sports Ears at Toyota Stadium could hear Gallen's harsh words.

The drama comes a day after new Sharks coach Shane Flanagan confirmed Gallen would lead his club in 2011. NSW management will also consider Gallen as Blues skipper for next season.

Finch would not name Gallen as the offender, only saying: "All I will say is that the referee spoke to the player and our review found that harsher action needed to be taken." Neither Flanagan nor Gallen would comment about the foul language last night.

NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley said: "Any incidents that take place on the field are under the direct control of the match officials in the first instance.

"But, of course, they are able to be reviewed by the NRL match review committee. If there are no charges as a result, the matter ends at that point."

Junior rugby league referees are strongly encouraged to dismiss a player for dissent.

well said paul

Hahaha.

What I don't get is how he said it against this ref. We've had far worse refs in the past! This bloke is a good guy if anything. Man I bet his balls ascended into his body quick smart and feared the Gallen.
