Did Smith get pulled from the game because he was injured or just because he was playing like ****e?

people are saying he was playing shiet, thats true but it seemed to me like he wasnt in the right frame of mind and was having frequent brain explosions and instances of poor judgement

just finished the replay of this game.... how the **** did we win it??

I thought the same thing, but after watching the replay they just seemed to play worse than us. They made as many dumb decisions as us but the difference was Sticky fired a rocket up the team at half time and Cowboys basically played the same as they were.

Sticky won us that game imo.

Cronulla v Canterbury-Bankstown, Bluetongue Stadium, Saturday 7.30pm (EST)
The Sharks are missing three players. Missing Kade Snowden and Paul Gallen will take away their go forward and missing Trent Barrett out the back with all his experience in attack is a big blow. The Dogs were very impressive on Monday night. The key for them was Ben Barba playing five-eighth and complementing Brett Kimmorley. They have moved Jamal Idris into the backrow and he played really well there. To me the Bulldogs look like they have plenty of dangerous players up front, and Brett Morris out wide to score points and The General at the back to shore them up. They will be too strong for the Sharks.

In RLW today it said he came in, said a few things, then walked out and slammed the door.

The rest of the halftime break was left to Gallen and Baz to sort things out. Maybe we should try that more often.

Johnathan Thurston questions ability to lead North Queensland

Johnathan Thurston questions ability to lead North Queensland
By Matt Marshall
July 01, 2010

Queensland halfback Johnathan Thurston admits he has questioned his ability to captain North Queensland Cowboys amid a harrowing search for answers to arrest another sickly season in Townsville.

Slaughtered 58-12 by Melbourne Storm in round 15, the 15th-placed Cowboys were playing for pride at Dairy Farmers Stadium last Saturday night, but sunk to a gut-wrenching extra-time loss to battling Cronulla.

Thurston's missed golden-point penalty goal attempt drove the final nail in his club's coffin, but his anguish extends beyond the haunting miss he describes as "bread-and-butter stuff".

Bunkered down in camp ahead of Wednesday night's Origin III clash in Sydney, the crestfallen dual Dally M Medal winner revealed the extent of the soul-searching he has undertaken over the past fortnight.

The Test halfback, who has led the Cowboys since 2007, has even doubted whether he or his leadership is a problem - with the harsh self-examination sparked by the fact it was an Origin-depleted Cowboys outfit that secured the club's last win.

"You do question it," Thurston said.

"They had a very good win against Canberra while we were in camp. You come back with the boys and Melbourne put 50 on you.

"It's a pretty lonely time. It's embarrassing. Then you have a heartbreaking loss to make it worse. It does play on your emotions, that's for sure. It plays with your head.

"You just don't want to be seen around anyone. It's tough. I've obviously been kicking stones. It was a tough night at the office.

"It's good to be in camp now. It's such a positive vibe and energy, it's just great to be back around the boys.

"It's the highs and lows of footy - going from one extreme to the other. You have such an enjoyable week, you're on such a high from an Origin win, you try to take all that positive energy back to your club and perform accordingly.

"You pride yourself on backing up for your club after a rep game.

"Personally, my performances after Origin have been pretty poor. Certainly this year's been pretty testing personally. We just can't take a trick."

Of that kick, the only blemish in a golden season with the boot that has netted 31 NRL goals from 35 attempts (88.5 per cent) - with his first miss not coming until round 12 - Thurston just shakes his head.

"It was shattering. It hurts. I don't know what I was thinking. Clearly I wasn't thinking," he said.

"It was a simple stuff-up. The most disappointing part about it is, that's your moment to shine.

"That's what you play the game for, when you're in that tackle, it's your time to do your job.

"That kick was my time to win us the game. I didn't put the ball out there far enough. That's what hurts."

Biggest comeback ever? I dont care.

There have been a few remarks flying around cyber-space about how quiet the big boy has been since we sputtered over the line against a pathetic cowboys outfit, thus eclipsing our record for the clubs biggest comeback. Whilst I heartily appreciate this blogs supporters thirst for more content, my comments about the loss to the Dragons should be remembered.

Whilst the comeback was noteworthy in that it was an awfully strange game, and I enjoy seeing J Thurston, captain sooky lala, have a shocking game (HOW did he miss that goal?); the victory rang hollow for me after such a poor showing in the derby. Again I will reiterate; a loss at home to the Dragons is unacceptable. Any ensuing vicotry in the redneck north against a team running worse than us, in a stilting, stumbling fashion just isnt going to get my pulse racing. Worse than that was our cringe inducing ability to almost lose this golden point encounter when the Cowboys gave us a gilt edged opportunity to put a clinic on.

We gave a great showing against the Dragons this last time. They are just a better side. The performance over a month ago was pathetic but this one was very good. We took the likely premiers to the limit.

BOYS' TETE-A-TETE

MAROONS prop Matt Scott isn't sure what was more embarrassing - that he and new North Queensland teammate Arana Taumata rushed in to prematurely celebrate what they thought was a winning field goal in last weekend's match against Cronulla or that he was left with a giant zipper down his forehead after the pair clashed heads. Scott, who has been in outstanding form in the first two Origins, has been copping a ribbing from Maroons teammates after being forced to wear headgear at training to protect the 11 stitches in the wound. Taumata, who was making his debut for the Cowboys after being released by Wests Tigers, escaped without injury. ''He might have a bruise but that's about it,'' Cowboys media manager Tim Nugent said of the boom playmaker, who will this week play for the club's Queensland Cup feeder team, Mackay. Asked about the stitches at the Maroons Sunshine Coast camp, Scott said: ''I wish I had a good story to go with it.''
