The tackle was pretty much dead and over and he just runs in and drives the right shoulder in Tounge's rib cage. But i do agree with you that it all comes along with the game of football.

I see where you are coming from mate but if someone is still upright and struggling and the ref hasnt called held, then they are fair game.

that tackle on tongue was one of the most comical things witnessed in league since that time laurie daley's sideline seat was stolen by phil gould and he pretended to be sitting on an imaginary chair next to him

That would be fair enough if Tongue had the ball. Tongue was tackling one of our blokes when Misi hit him.

That ain't football.

CANBERRA RAIDERS V CRONULLA SHARKS

Sunday 14th June, 2.00pm
Canberra Stadium
Referees: Shayne Hayne, Gerard Sutton

HEAD TO HEAD
Sharks 28 wins, Raiders 24 wins

FORM GUIDE
Raiders: LLLWWLLLBLWWB
Sharks: WLLLLLLLBLLWW

Both teams are enjoying rare winning streaks, with the Raiders enjoying comfortable wins over the Warriors and Rabbitohs before last week’s bye while the Sharks beat Parramatta and the Warriors in the last fortnight.

Canberra five-eighth Terry Campese rejoins the side after his first taste of State of Origin football, and will enjoy the chance to control a game again after an underwhelming debut for the Blues.

The Sharks meanwhile have struggled with yet more bad news off the field, this time with club CEO Tony Zappia in trouble, but can at least be confident that the second-half of their season cannot be any much than their first.

On last week’s evidence Cronulla do have plenty to look forward to in the future, with young fullback Nathan Stapleton and rookie halfback Scott Porter both outstanding.

KEY MATCH UP
Terry Campese v Trent Barrett

Campese just about carried the Raiders into the finals on his own last year, and has again been a standout for the Green Machine this season before being put in place by the superstar Queenslanders.

He will be all the better for his Origin experience, and will welcome the return to the slower pace of regular NRL football this week.

Barrett has taken on the captaincy at Cronulla and led from the front last week, laying on a try go with a 40/20 kick and three tackle breaks.

His leadership and experience at the club will be all the more important alongside rookie Porter, and if the pair can continue to impress the Sharks could well still end their horror season on a bright note.

PUNTERS GUIDE
Head to head:
Raiders $1.36; Sharks $3.00
The Raiders love these winter months when the temperatures drop and rival teams really start to struggle at the chilly Canberra Stadium.

They’ve been in terrific form of late, and so long as the week off doesn’t kill off their momentum they should be able to handle the improving Sharks. Canberra by 12.

CASUALTY WARD
Raiders:
Justin Carney – sternum (Rnd 15), David Shillington – back (Rnd 15)
Sharks: Jason Bukua – ankle (Rnd 16), Ben Ross – neck (season), Brett Kearney – foot (season), Bronx Goodwin – ankle (Rnd 16), Brett Seymour – knee (Rnd 16)

BAD BOYS
Raiders: -
Sharks:
Reni Maitua – suspended (indefinite)

TEAM LISTS
RAIDERS:

Raiders v Sharks, Sunday 2pm (EST), Canberra Stadium
The resurgent Sharks are threatening to cut a swathe through the lower ranks of the table. First it was Parramatta, then the Warriors, and now they are eyeing off the Raiders. Look out the Roosters in two weeks time! For a team that was on the fast track to the wooden spoon, the last few weeks for the Sharks have been quite a turnaround. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here! It’s a great story and all but it’s hardly going to change the fact that the Sharks are headed for a bottom three finish. And they have some pretty tough assignments coming up as well, so winning a third game in a row might just be the highlight of their season. Canberra is also enjoying a revival of sorts after stooping to their lowest ebb of the season in Melbourne three weeks ago. Wins over the Warriors and Rabbitohs have put finals talk firmly back on the agenda in the nation’s capital so they can ill-afford to drop a game against a team below them, especially with matches against the Sea Eagles, Storm, Titans, Knights and Panthers looming. They have already beaten the Sharks once this season – a 24-14 success back in round five at Toyota Park – and on a chilly Sunday afternoon at home, can’t afford to let this one slip.

Laurie says: “Both teams are coming off back-to-back wins with the Sharks to be commended for their efforts following a disastrous start to the season. However, I have to go with the home team on this one with Campese to provide all the answers behind a dominant pack. The Raiders have a few more strike weapons across the park and will get the points.”

Raiders celebrate Women in League
Written by: Raiders media
Jun 11, 2009 3:53pm

Sunday afternoon at Canberra Stadium will be chance to celebrate the involvement of women in the game of Rugby League, when the Raiders take on the Sharks in the 2009 Harvey Norman Women in League Round of the NRL.

The Green Machine will introduce a touch of Pink to the game on Sunday as they use specially branded pink footballs, which carry the branding and support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The whole day at Canberra Stadium will be a celebration of Women in the Sport, with the Raiders staying on the field after the game to hand out hundreds of Women in League mini footballs to the females of all ages in the crowd.

At halftime of the main game there will be a junior rugby league match featuring an all girl affair, with participants of the junior rugby league competitions joining forces to show how popular Rugby League is at the junior level.

There will also be some pre-match interviews on the big screen with some women involved in the Raiders organisation as well as Raiders Halfback Marc Herbert’s sister Rachel talking about her involvement in the game.

Raiders Coach David Furner said it’s very important to recognize the contribution women make to the support of Rugby League and encouraged everyone to get to the game on Sunday afternoon.

“Every player at any level of the game has the support of women in their life, whether it is their mother, wife, daughter or even grandmother,” Furner said. “Hopefully we get a big crowd at Canberra Stadium on Sunday so we can all say thanks to the many wonderful women who support our great game.”

The Raiders take on the Sharks on Sunday at 2.00pm. Gates open at 11.30am with the Toyota Cup kicking off at 11.45am.

Sunday, Canberra Stadium, 2pm
Referees: Shayne Hayne, Gerard Sutton
Head to head: Raiders 24, Sharks 28
Last clash: Raiders 24 bt Sharks 14 at Toyota Stadium (Rd 5, 2009)
TAB Sportsbet: Raiders $1.36, Sharks $3.05
FootyTAB: Sharks +8.5 points

Recent history shows that the away team has often won when these two teams have played. The Sharks have done very well at Canberra Stadium in recent years and certainly won't be afraid of the trip. Winter is kicking in, and the Raiders love their home games when there is a real chill in the air, but while it will be cold at least the game will be played in the daytime, so the Sharks can be grateful for that.

Both teams have had a resurgence lately. The Raiders had lost four in a row, leaving them 2-7 overall, when they finally bounced back to beat the Warriors at home and the Rabbitohs on the road. Their season was about to be pronounced dead before those wins, but now they are still alive, although they need to keep winning to continue making up ground on the top eight. The Sharks were doing even worse, having lost nine in a row, to be 1-9 overall, when they bounced back to beat the Eels on the road and the Warriors at home. The Raiders are naturally favourites at home, but remember that habit of the away team winning when these two teams meet. It's funny how trends like that develop.

The Raiders get their chief playmaker, Terry Campese, back after he missed the win over the Rabbitohs due to State of Origin commitments with NSW. The Sharks get their star forward, Paul Gallen, back from a shoulder injury. The Sharks have still got some key players out injured, and are also minus Reni Maitua following his positive drug test, but they are playing with plenty of spirit. Don't doubt their ability to make real game of this.

RAIDERS:
David Milne, Adrian Purtell, Jarrod Croker, Joel Monaghan, Phil Graham, Terry Campese, Marc Herbert, Dane Tilse, Glen Buttriss, Scott Logan, Tom Learoyd-Lahrs, Bronson Harrison, Alan Tongue (c). Interchange: Trevor Thurling, Nigel Plum, Josh Miller, Troy Thompson.

SHARKS: Nathan Stapleton, Blake Ferguson, Matt Wright, Reece Williams, Luke Covell, Trent Barrett (c), Scott Porter, Kade Snowden, Tony Caine, Luke Douglas, Atelea Vea, Anthony Tupou, Paul Gallen. Interchange: Johnny Mannah, Grant Millington, Mitch Brown, Terence Seu Seu, Jacob Selmes, Ben Pomeroy (two to be omitted).

Canberra v Cronulla, Sunday 2pm (EST), Canberra Stadium
Raiders fan Woppadingo of Tura Beach: "No way Mr Adjudicator, Campo will be hell bent on proving his worth this weekend, in a team that is finding form, against a Sharks outfit which only beat a poor performing Warriors last weekend. Campo did well for the few opportunities that came his way in SOO, setting up a try and nearly another. So he will take confidence in that. The Sharks can expect a freezing cold reception in the Capital - perfect for the Raiders at home, but terrible for the Sharks. The Sharks are in for a flogging, no doubt."

Sharks fan Sean of Parra says: "Despite their start to the year, winning form is good form and the sharks have won 2 in a row. Raiders have been ok but I don’t think they will appreciate anthony Tupou paul Gallen running at them with reckless abandonement of self preservation. porter showed he could be the real deal at 7 whereas marc herbet doesn’t excite me for the berra battlers. Your on the money judi, sharks by eight."

The Adjudicator says: "After his State of Origin performance I'm starting think Campo is more wayward than he is a wizard - the Raiders won their last start without him. Woppadingo, I can't buy into this Canberra weather theory: the Sharks are from the ocean - it isn't very warm in there at the moment, either. Cronulla by four."

Sharks plan to give Raiders the ‘cold shoulder’

The Sharks left for Canberra on Friday morning, a day earlier than previously scheduled, in a bid to acclimatise to the cold conditions expected on Sunday for their clash with the Raiders

Sharks plan to give Raiders the ‘cold shoulder’
June 12, 2009

The Sharks boarded a bus on Friday morning bound for Canberra, a day earlier than scheduled, in an effort to get themselves accustomed to the frigid conditions they are sure to face on Sunday afternoon in the national capital.

With temperatures struggling to reach double figures, the Sharks will enter an unforgiving environment at Canberra Stadium, while facing up to a Raiders team high on confidence following two victories in succession.

Likewise, the Sharks will head south equally upbeat after two wins at their last two starts, with their emerging stars riding high after impressing all in recent weeks.

The Sharks will again be looking for something of the same from rookie half back Scott Porter, whose kicking game has steered his team around the paddock in their past two starts, while livewire fullback Nathan Stapleton will be intent on continuing his solid form of the last three weeks.

Sharks State of Origin backrower Paul Gallen has made the trip to Canberra with the NRL side, but will need to pass a final fitness test at tomorrow’s last training session before being passed fit to play.

Coach Stuart has taken a six-man bench, with Grant Millington the obvious replacement should Gallen be unavailable. Ben Pomeroy and Jacob Selmes have also been named on an extended bench.

And as difficult a place as Canberra might be to play for visiting teams, the Sharks appear to have something of a winning formula, having won at each of their four previous starts at the home ground of the Raiders.

Overall, in 17 matches played between the two clubs at Canberra Stadium, the Raiders hold an 11 to six advantage in the win-loss column.

The match on Sunday kicks off at Canberra Stadium at 2.00pm, with the Toyota Cup clash to get underway at 11.45am.

Back in Sydney, the NSW Cup Sharks will attempt to extend their seven-match winning streak when they play the North Sydney Bears, that match starting at 2.30pm at North Sydney Oval.

There will be changes to Ricky's starting line up for this game as Tony Caine has withdrawn apparently with a knee injury.

Will Ricky call up Corey Hughes?
