the issues we have on the wing and lack of a back up no 6 since kelly's departure are well known.... i dont understand why all these arm chair coaches are suddenly screaming out like they have something new to say...

flanno IMO had to use graham as 6 first up... and yes obviously didnt work but form here and with next weeks bye he has time to make changes (bring in another 6) and get the team back on track...

think about it if he went with another option in the 6 and it failed the only thing he could do is throw wade in there... better off using up the wade option first then going to something different next ..

i never expected us to win ever game... nor should anyone else !

Wade is the only option at 5/8 IMO. And whilst I though it would be a close game I don't expect us to turn up unprepared and without intensity or passion.

Im probably just annoyed because i lost $60 on this game haha. I thought the boys would of been fired up with the signing of the new sponsor and I thought that would of got us over the line but i guess not...

I finally got a chance to ride the CSSC "Bus of Dreams" out to Homebush last night. Had a great time on the way out, even though we only had one bus full, we still made plenty of noise. Even knocked back a Shark Energy drink for good luck!

Oh well, what can you say? It wasn't to be. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Origin is killing us. Ridiculous concept, it has to be changed.

Without Gallen, we were lacking go forward and venom in defence in the middle. The Dogs forwards were simply not getting hit and were able to punch through and offload at will.

Without Carney, we lacked structure and direction. We struggled poorly in the kicking department, especially our long kicking game.

All in all, I doubted we could win this game. We played our "grand final" last week and the boys looked like they found it had to find the same emotion for last nights game. I don't think it's a big issue, every team will have an off day.

On the positive side, we seemed to lift in the second half and defended with more purpose, which was pleasing.

Finally, I still had a great night out with the CSSC, I highly recommend becoming a member and joining us either at home in "The Cage" or for a trip away on the "Bus of Dreams". Not only is it a fun atmosphere, it makes the wins more enjoyable and the losses easier to get over!:p

i agree with everything except the gallen bit. we didnt have him against melbourne and we were outstanding.

the dogs just seemed to be able to offload at will, which was disappointing.

oh well, back to the training paddock, need to pick it up again and destroy the eels

It's pretty simple, dogs played well sharks didn't and I think it has more to do with the dogs not allowing the sharks to play well, exactly what the sharks have done to many of team over the past couple of months.

1 game is not the end of the world, if it happens again next game well then there is maybe time too look at doing something different.

In summery, every team has an off game every now and then, it was the sharka turn this week, we are in the 8, running 5th 4 points clear of ninth with the bye this weekend coming. Not out yet... It's was only one game.

My gripe was the poor game plan implemented. We really only tried to play through the middle. Hard task against the Dogs as they have some great defenders in that middle part of the field. The key was to get traffic at Reynolds and Keating. Just didn't happen though.

We didn't catch the Bus of Dreams out to the game but still sat in the same bay and couldn't believe those young bulldogs punks "supporter" with their mullets
bum bags and tracky daks coming down to sit in front of the CSSC supporters in the second half just to stir crap giving that stupid doggiiiies dance.

Good on the security for stepping in quick and removing those "supporters" before trouble started we had young kids with us and they didn't need to hear that swearing and spiiting at the shark supporters

With ironshark stepping up and taking charge.

This match really was a case of us fans and the players wanting to prove and show that we were capable without Carney and Gallen. Even an accomplished performance would have pleased us.
But the underlying fact is, at present we will struggle more then we want to admit without Carney.
To have tested the doggies, we had to turn up with our good solid defence, and the usual solid structure with the key player being Graham performing well and not Robson. Graham performed admirably but not as a 5/8. As mentions before he isnt that kind of utility player anymore, hes a natural second-rower and i hope we have learnt this now. I understand we dont have a ready made 5/8 up our sleeve for these sitauations must surely something would have been tried and tested before now.

I think in retrospect now after that game, 2 major factors re-surface.
1# That without Carney, his replacement needs to be a player with flair, and speed, decent kicking and hands that can throw a top pass. Townsend could work though with the games against titans and Broncos id be more inclined to gamble with other players at our disposal and play Penani Manumalealii from toyota cup, hes got great running and passing and flair. OR put John Morris at 5/8 and bring Lichaa on the bench. The need for our 5/8 to have speed to accelerate off offloads is vital, as we saw with Reynolds and Keating ripping us apart.
2# Is the obvious need for speed in our backs. ESSPECIALLY With no Gardner and Carney we are fairly blunt. IMO John Williams days are numbered, we need someone quick and agile in support of Best, and thats to overall better our team. Matt Wright will always be solid and consistant, but his lack of speed is telling, esspecially when Carney or Gordon is missing, this is a tough one.

Overall, we did not help ourselves at all with our dodgy first half defence and blown try. And the fact that Reynolds, Keating and Barba were running us ragged, the dogs were good and are a top team.
Our forwards were lackluster, Gibbs played well though.
Taga is surely to be dropped.
Frizzel was very good, i think we should play him more regardless of him leaving. Could definently help us this season.
Taufua was good.
Robson did his best, he messed up that try bad but with Graham at 5/8 it was no help to him, all to predictable.

This match will serve us well in the long term if we do the right thing and learn from it. Time to attend to those nagging flaws and adjust accordingly for future situations like this.
Lets bounce back boys!

Just on those Bulldogs "fans" they clearly not there to enjoy football, they are there to cause trouble. It's guys like that, that ruin the reputation of Bulldogs fans. To see them spitting & carrying on the way they did was just poor form.

Pretty balanced assessment mate. Agree with most of it.

I disagree that our forwards were bad.

Gibbs, Ross, Fifita, Taufua, Smith all had games at their best or close to it.

Graham was great though not officially a forward.

Taga was horrible and Frizell did his best but was no cover for Graham in that role.

i agree i think the main problem was graham played well but more like his normal role of backrow, meaning we really had only one half. which made us very predicatable for the bulldogs defence.
i would like to see townsend given a opportunity, allowing graham to go back row. this should improve our back row as graham is much better than taga and i think having townsend in the team will take some defensive pressure of robson

What everyone is forgetting is that the doggies pulled out an almost perfect first half of football - much like the Rabbits did a few weeks ago . I think they only had one incomplete set in that first half . sure we didnt help ourselves but the Dogs played pretty good football - see the depth in their attack , their defence? We tried to come good in the second half with the help of the refs but just couldnt muster it in the end.

It pisses me off that teams pick us to come good against - last week the dogs were deplorable against the Titans yet produce outstanding footy this week . Week before we played Souths they were crap .

Its the nature of the competition - last week we were outstanding this week so so - we will have more wins like last weeks and we will probably have anothe rloss or two like last night .

We're still travellin' OK boys .

No changes required next week to strting line up unless you want to shift morris to 5/8 and graham to lock thats it . Taga might be doubtful starter too , maybe Green to bench if he's fit .
