Two good things in one day GW can you confirm it at all

Anyone remember the 1990s the Fisk/Gow Days.

So we have the scissors all we need is the Gow to join us :D.

Fisk lives in the shire and has been around for some time and would have a hell of a lot of contacts its going to be a challenge for him but he wouldn't be coming back to us unless he wanted that very challenge.

Good work Board.

Interim CEO but he would be at the top of the list anyway.

Sharks Announce New Appointments

June 19, 2009

The Cronulla Sharks today announce the appointment of Richard Fisk as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Richard joins the Sharks with over 30 years experience in the sports industry and a strong background in sports administration, commercial operations and media.

In announcing the appointment Sharks Deputy Chairman Damian Irvine said he was excited about Richard’s appointment and the internal promotion of Steve Litvensky to the role of General Manager Football.

“It’s is a real confidence boost for the entire club to welcome back Richard, who many will remember was a driving force in the 90s to help lift the Sharks to a strong position financially and as a brand,” Irvine said.

“The appointments of Richard and Steve provides a special opportunity for the club to now go forward and build the foundations required to allow the Sharks to flourish, fulfil our potential, and reclaim our rightful position as a respected brand at the top of the rugby league and the Australian sporting landscape,” he added.

Set to assume the role in the coming days, Mr Fisk sees his new position at the Sharks as an exciting challenge.

“First and foremost our job is to re-build the confidence of our members, fans, corporate partners, the Shire and the whole rugby league community,” he said. “It has been a rough ride lately for this loyal group and it is our job to draw a line in the sand and go forward.

“The players have shown the way by winning three games in a row during a difficult period for the club off the field and now with the quality of the off-field team we will be rolling up our sleeves and doing the same thing,” Fisk concluded.

Mr Irvine confirmed the appointment of Steve Litvensky as General Manager Football, a promotion he believed was well deserved, with Mr Litvensky to embrace the extra responsibility and to continue to work closely with Ricky Stuart and the coaching staff.

Richard Fisk has been confirmed as the new chief executive of the embattled Cronulla NRL club following the resignation of former CEO Tony Zappia.

Fisk rejoins the Sharks after a 12-year absence from the club. His appointment comes just two months after he was made redundant from his position as general manager of marketing at the Sydney Roosters.

Fisk said he was excited by the challenge of returning the club to its former glory following a disastrous 12 months in which the Sharks have been engulfed by a spate of off-field incidents.

"I feel greatly honoured to be back at the Sharks. It's a really exciting period," said Fisk, who worked alongside current Sharks coach Ricky Stuart during his time at the Roosters.

"First and foremost, while we have to get our internal practices correct, what we need to do and what the board and indeed the entire club are committed to, is win back the trust of not just the fans, not just the shire, but the rugby league community.

"That's the challenge in front of us."

As part of the restructuring at the club, football manager Steve Litvensky was promoted to general manager of football.

Cronulla appoint Richard Fisk as new chief executive to replace Tony Zappia
By staff writers
June 19, 2009

Cronulla have appointed Richard Fisk as their new chief executive in the wake of Tony Zappia's marred exit.
Sharks deputy chairman Damian Irvine welcomed Fisk in a media statement on Friday:

"It's is a real confidence boost for the entire club to welcome back Richard, who many will remember was a driving force in the 90s to help lift the Sharks to a strong position financially and as a brand," Irvine said.

"The appointments of Richard and Steve provides a special opportunity for the club to now go forward and build the foundations required to allow the Sharks to flourish, fulfil our potential, and reclaim our rightful position as a respected brand at the top of the rugby league and the Australian sporting landscape."

Former chief executive Zappia announced his resignation last week, only days after he had stood down following crude allegations involving former employee Jenny Hall last year.

Fisk was realistic in admitting he faced a challenge in restoring the club's image after a string of incidents that have plagued the Shire club in 2009, including the loss of their major sponsor LG Electronics.

"First and foremost our job is to re-build the confidence of our members, fans, corporate partners, the Shire and the whole rugby league community," he said.

"It has been a rough ride lately for this loyal group and it is our job to draw a line in the sand and go forward.

"The players have shown the way by winning three games in a row during a difficult period for the club off the field and now with the quality of the off-field team we will be rolling up our sleeves and doing the same thing."

Cronulla have taken the first steps towards restoring their battered image with marketing guru Richard Fisk installed as the new chief executive at the embattled NRL club.

Fisk, made redundant by the Sydney Roosters only two months ago after 12 years at the tri-colours, was on Friday named to replaced Tony Zappia at the helm of the Sharks.

Zappia resigned his post after becoming embroiled in several off-field scandals, Fisk brought in to rebuild a club which had been brought to its knees.

“In life, when you get an opportunity and there are a few problems, you can only tinker with it, but after the last months with the Sharks, they really have hit or are close to rock bottom,” Fisk said.

“While we have to get our internal practices correct, what we need to do and what the board and indeed the entire club are committed to, is win back the trust of not just the fans, not just the shire, but the rugby league community.

“That’s the challenge and quite frankly I just think that’s a very exciting challenge and one I can’t wait to embrace.”

The Sharks have lurched from one scandal to the next in what has been a dismal 2009, Zappia’s resignation following Barry Pierce’s decision to step down as chairman.

Deputy chairman Damian Irvine, one of a handful of candidates in line to succeed Pierce when he finishes up at the end of the month, confirmed Fisk would be a long-term appointment, claiming an interim posting would have done little to stabilise the troubled club.

Fisk first held discussions with the Sharks 5-6 weeks ago, when the club started putting out feelers following reports Zappia was set to leave the club.

The former Roosters general manager of marketing said there was no short-term cure to the Sharks ills, which include issues with the playing roster and financial support following the exodus of several sponsors.

“I think the challenge in front of us is certainly a long one,“ Fisk said.

“I can think of nothing better in life than to come to this club in its current time and leave it with a premiership and to be financially stable and that’s going to take a while to achieve all of those outcomes.”

Many have come to the Sharks with similar intent, yet to date, none have been successful with the club still searching for its first premiership.

Fisk at least knows the background of the club, having worked there before switching to the Roosters.

He also has experience in working with Sharks coach Ricky Stuart, the two having been together at the Roosters for five seasons including the club’s 2002 premiership win.

Irvine denied Fisk’s relationship with Stuart had been a factor in the appointment, but Fisk was adamant his experience with Stuart would be beneficial.

“I think the great thing about our friendship is that we disagree on things but we agree to be friends,” Fisk said.

Fisk’s appointment coincided with the elevation of Steve Litvensky to general manger of football, while the board on Thursday ordered an independent review of the football club’s governance and management procedures.

This seems like very good news but 2 questions:

1. Who knows stuff about Fisk? Can you enlighten us?

2. Was he one of the people that fell out with Ricky or did they remain friends?

Edit: Interim? The article i read on NRL.com said there was no point hiring an interim CEO as they need some stability so they hired Fisk long-term...

How I'll fix the Sharks: Richard Fisk
By Josh Massoud
June 20, 2009 12:00am

HE'S spent the past two months fishing, but Richard Fisk is now swimming with Sharks after he was yesterday plunged into the deep end at Cronulla.

Having cut his teeth in marketing at the club more than a decade ago, Fisk will return next week as CEO to tackle the toughest gig in rugby league - repairing Cronulla's shattered image.

With Cronulla in urgent need of an image overhaul after a season of unprecedented scandal, the new Sharks board plumped for Fisk's marketing expertise to repair damage done by the ugly exit of predecessor Tony Zappia and the Matthew Johns group sex affair.

His arrival coincides with the departure of chairman Barry Pierce, who club sources believe will prematurely walk away early next week.

"This is a unique opportunity to start from scratch to rebuild from the bottom up," Fisk said.

"There were some reservations at first, but every time I spoke to the board I was impressed with how enthusiastic they are for change.

"The number one thing we have to do is be transparent - and that starts with people admitting they've made mistakes and being prepared to learn from those mistakes. We've got to get back out there and earn respect. We want the players in the community to win their confidence back."

Fisk's first incarnation at Cronulla was between 1993 and 1998, and followed promising forays into media and player management. He took up a similar marketing role at the Roosters in 1999, but was a surprise victim of a front-office restructure two months ago. "When I left the Roosters, all I wanted to do was have some time off," Fisk said.

"I lived up at our house on Summerland Point in Lake Macquarie and I reckon she'd be just about fished out by now."

Fisk said Cronulla first cast their line his way late last month, when a powerful consortium of local business identities known as the Ways and Means committee was re-formed to help save the struggling Sharks.

His name was raised at their first meeting, which long-time supporter and Sharks coach Ricky Stuart attended, three weeks ago. Fisk ironically fronted the full Cronulla board on Monday night - the day before Zappia was dragged in to account for $30,000 in secret donations to the Beyond Sharks Foundation.

Asked about his feelings while watching Cronulla sink from arm's length, Fisk said: "It was very, very sad because I'd worked at the club previously and still knew a lot of good people there. To see it disintegrate like that was very hard.

"But that's why I see this job as such a great challenge. To me, it's the most exciting job in rugby league to get the Sharks back on track."

Deputy chairman Damien Irvine said the board decided to immediately replace Zappia because it could "no longer afford to keep treading water".

"We've got to start repairing our brand because it's suffered so much damage in the past couple of months," Irvine said. He said Fisk had been appointed on a fulltime basis and would continue beyond this season. Pierce is expected to go as soon as Monday. He had wanted to stay to nurse through Cronulla's $90 million DA application on 29 June, but council has reserved its decision until August 4.
