They had blood coming out of their nose and one of them's got a pretty sore jaw, so something hit them in the head. I don't know if it was a seagull or what.
- Shane Flanagan after the Roosters escaped any penalty for two head high shots on Chad Townsend and Sam Tagataese, Round 24 2011

Chad Townsend: I remember playing for my junior club like it was yesterday. Growing up in the Shire there was only one team I dreamed of playing for.

I will lend Lockyer my cheekbone if he wants to play, just to beat Manly.

I would have a great deal of difficulty cheering for Manly after the two defeats we had against the bastards. I've picked Melbourne all year. I couldn't cheer for Manly, too many memories would come flooding back.

At his best, Carney could return the Sharks to the glory days when Andrew Ettingshausen and David Peachey were running in tries for fun.

Gal is unbelievably competitive, even in silly little games like tag around the dressing room. He won’t quit until he gets you. And he always does. Look, I’m competitive but I won’t lose my arm over something. Gal risks everything. He’s inspiring, by example. On the field he doesn’t say a lot, but when he does you don’t question his orders. You follow.

I’ve got a lot of mates there still, including [NSW Origin] forward Luke Lewis, who is playing his 200th game. But I’m a Sharkie now, through and through.

Gallen doesn't just play for himself. He plays for his club and all it represents. Cronulla hate St George, ergo so does Gallen. He didn't even grow up in the Sutherland Shire, but as Sharks captain he has adopted the cause with the same fervour that sent David Hicks off to fight alongside the Taliban.

Everyone loves being at Cronulla, and everyone loves the bunch of blokes that they're around, and are willing to give their best for that bloke next to them.

But the laid-back No 1 is just happy to be running around in the black, white and blue of the club he's supported all his life.

We have an unbelievable bond, we're so tight. Compared to the Tigers everyone is so tight. We have the same dressing rooms, it's just more of a friendship. We're all just brothers and it's no split groups, no nothing, it's who we are.

He's the glue to any team he'll be in. He gets the boys together and we have a lot of fun around him and he makes us more of a team than people would really see. He's that guy that will put on that sneaky little hit that you need or do the little crappy things that other people don't want to do. He's there and doing that and it's good to have him by my side.

79 min: The "Sharkies, Sharkies, Sharkies" chant goes up at Toyota Stadium. Beating the Dragons is as good as it gets for the Cronulla faithful.
