Here's how the sharks rate on rleague.com:
Cronulla Sharks 39.5
2006: 13th
2007: 9th
Quality 6.5/10 Their forward pack matches any in the league, but lacks depth. Their outside backs are more quantity rather than quality.
Depth 7.5/10 As mentioned they have recruited heavily in bits and parts players to fill in the three quarter line. Seymour provides options at half and De Gois at hooker. However losing Villasanti, Stosic and Maiava makes their front row stocks look decisively thin.
Juniors 3.5/10 Mitch Brown may play a part on the wing, however other than that the local junior ranks look extensively skinny for the sharks. Important year for last years standout Luke Douglas.
Form 2/10 Two trial losses against under strength opponents and an unimpressive win over the Rabbitohs is not the best preparation, especially considering their abysmal form at the back end of last year.
History 4/10 Only four times has a side come from 13th or lower the previous season to make the top 8 since the NRL began in 1998.
Motivation 9/10 A definite advantage for the Sharks will be their motivation to claim their first title. Ricky Stuart always has his sides ready to play and the Sharks will be no different.
Other Factors 7/10 The contract of Brett Kimmorly, Adam Dykes and others may be their biggest threats during the year. Speculation over Kimmorly/Dykes/Stuart may hurt if early losses occur. For the Sharks to win the comp, they need Brett Kimmorly to be their halfback and in form.
Look For A reasonably slow start from the Sharks. A big turn over of players and a coach who sees the bigger picture means the Sharks will pace themselves in 2007. Stuart will ensure the Sharks are at least competitive week in week out, and with match practice may just turn them into a real threat. Lance Thompson to gain an early exit from his contract if the Sharks fail to deliver in 2007.
