Maloney is 10x the player of carney. We needed carney at the time but no way he gets us to a grand final win i reckon.

At the time I though toddy would be the messiah, turns out he was nothing more than a real talented piss head.

All-time favourite squad. Watching other fans bitch about letting certain players go to us and envying the camaraderie among our boys is a wonderful feeling.

Its funny that carney was a **** defender, but so is maloney. But this last month, he just put his body in front of blokes. How good is this guy

I don't think Jimmy's ever looked anywhere near as much of a turnstyle as carney was, but agree he stepped it up a level.

Yeah, Maloney atleast gets his body in front of his opponent and the initial contact is usually quite solid.
He may get bumped or shrugged off a bit but it slows there attack down significantly.
Carney would rarely put his body inline with direction the ball carrier was running and would more often then not
Just stick an arm out - the perfect turnstile.

hahahaah **** he was so bad it wasn't funny. Then again he was never going to succeed with a name like that, poor bastard.
I remember that poor fella Matt Groat. He had a face that made Phil Gould look like model material. Unforgettable.

The surprise for me was how good Maloney actually is.

At the warriors, he had Johnson(?) i think in the halves with him and Roosters he had Peirce, and a raging Carney and i always thought he was solid, but not a game breaker and needed the X-factor beside him to be any good. I even used to question his selection in origin and rep footy thinking, well without his gun halfback hes got nothing to offer.

When we signed him i thought, great, we have another slightly better robbo coming who will play ok but wont win us games or provide that spark.

Boy was i wrong.

Yeah Maloney was rarely mentioned in the media when discussing our x factors...usually was Val, Barba, Fifita getting the mentions. Maloney is right up there imo.

To be honest I think that's because he wasn't that flash early on. Besides his kicking game, he didn't rack up lots of assists and his running game started out pretty ineffective this year. Cometh the moment though, he was just about our best in the finals. Must have made a least 5 linebreaks, pinpoint kicking and not sure if he missed a goal. Showed his experience and absolutely killed it when it mattered.

Yeah you're probably right. The thing I love about him is that he's a real footballer, not an athlete as so often gets spoken about in the game these days.

where as Maloney has played the most games out of anyone in the NRL in the past 3 years, was it? He just brings supreme consistency to the table at an elite level. You would have to class him in the top echelon of play makers.

I agree with this assessment. For most part of the year it felt like we weren't getting value for money as his stats were down quite a bit compared to the last few seasons but like you said he showed it when it counted. In saying all of this what he offered in terms of his off-field experience would be invaluable

Money well spent. Brilliant recruitment by flanno

not really

maloney always has a high missed tackle count as he abssorbs the initial contact which allows wade/leutele to finish off the play

carney was just a turnstile
yeah I can handle missed tackles like this. It's the miss tackles like beale on chambers that burns me. That's where missed tackle stats can be misleading
