Yeah i started a new thread for this - so get over it haha

Just thinking it's quite funny that our team won the comp with so many players basically unwanted by their previous clubs.

Barba - Thanks wayne
Maloney - jackson hastings...
Ennis - Michael lichaa...
Fifita - matt groat...
Bukuya - out of form at nz
Heighington - was considered finished
Lewis - panthers obsession with buying a million players like they're playing FIFA
Taga - mid season switch from gold coast
Beale - dragons cast-off
Prior - as above
Feki - not sure if the warriors wanted to keep him

Sort of shows that the obsession with only buying players for the future isn't necessarily the right one.

just on feki, it is worth mentioning that when he left NZ he went to canberra and trialled with them for 3 weeks only to be told they were signing shaun berrigan instead

didnt tigers let fifita go to sign blair? who mega flopped

Think so, I think at the time, in defence of the tigers they had cap pressure cause of the Blair signing, they were willing to offload Gibbs to us & Flano called their bluff & said we'd take Gibbs as long as the Tigers would release Fifs as well.

I think the Tigers were reluctant to do so initially but Flano appeared as though he wasn't budging, Fifs had already started to get a rep at the Tigers about not being a good trainer so the Tigers agreed to it.

I was only later where Flano said he was always willing to take Gibbs on regardless but he kept his cards close to his chest.

I think the ennis one is my favourite just because how badly lichaa has gone and how much dogs fans gave us for letting him go and signing ennis. Now they all hate des for doing that haha

I wonder how many teams have started the season with 2 brand new halves and gone on to win the comp. I guess Chad was here previously though.

The articles when we got Fifs in the Tigershark transaction, they mentioned he had potential up the whaazoo but was moved on due to poor attitude and off-field behaviour. This is a vague recollection however

Probably my favourite thing about this years squad.

So many cast offs that werent wanted. Especially from "bigger" clubs like the Dogs, Broncos, Dragons, Tigers, Roosters etc.

Lets also remember the blow ups when we 'let go' guys like Friz, Peach, Lichaa etc......

Some of these guys we were heart broken to see go, as good as theyve become, werent in our GF winning side. While it might have taken a few years beyond those lost players to get there, how can anyone ever regret any recruitment of the last 5-6 seasons.

When Carney left i was gutted, but he HAD to be sacked. No 2 ways about it. If he was here in 2016, we dont have Maloney, Chad may or may not be here. But either way, I dont think Carney woulda got us to the grand final like Maloney did. He is just a professional player.

2013-2014 were such tense years for us, but you wonder, did that need to happen now? Was 2015 a kind of re-birth for this club?

Certain blokes kept the club alive, then in 2015 positive changes started to take place and we saw the fruits. 2016......Ill be ****ed

Its impossible to know what might have happened had we made different recruitment decisions regarding the likes of friz and peach. The only thing we can be sure of is if we never lose lichaa, we never play in october.

Some real good points in this thread. Evo, your comment about Lewis is so true haha.

Who knows if Carney would have taken us all the way? It definitely was the right decision in hindsight.

The one that stands out for me is Ennis. Yes, you could say that we won that trade. Lichaa still has years in him. He could turn out to be a solid player. I know we got what we wanted with Ennis. Actually, it doesn't really matter now does it?!
