I guess this is Olympic related.

The Comm Games have been saved apparently. A deals been reached with Glasgow to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games after Victoria completely embarrassed the country by shamefully withdrawing their hosting rights putting a permanent black mark on Australia’s exemplary record of hosting big sporting events.

We didn’t want the worlds biggest school sports carnival was a dumb idea to start with would have been a whole new level of dumb to have hosted it.

100%, it's such an outdated concept it isn't funny. Completely irrelevant.

I'd hope NSW acted the same, complete waste of money.

It's just a watered down Olympics or World Championship* (or equivalent) - another major sporting event.

Meaningful to the Athletes, at least in part due to the pageantry element, which is really propped up to suit spectators who are likely less interested than ever before. Of course, always good to be selected for and take part in big events.

There may be a beneficial element to it for prep for other major events and especially for the Olympics though. Hard to say. And then is it enough to make it worthwhile.

Restricting which countries are involved can have a mixed effect too. I know someone who got Bronze in Tokyo then came fourth in Birmingham the next year - both golds went to the same athlete, 2nd and 3rd at Comm Games were from same county as Gold and didn't qualify for Tokyo due to only one spot for that Nation!

*for a lot of sports it is watered down in competition but makes for a higher profile event than their sports major competition does.

Doesnt matter, you agreed to host it and you failed. Permanent black mark on Australias reputation and its all Victoria’s fault. Tsk tsk tsk.

Dan Andrews agreed to host it. Most corrupt piece of **** in state government history. Nobody down here gives two shits about the commonwealth games.

On any big sporting event that might be thinking of offering Australia hosting rights. Like the World Cup, the Olympics or the World Postie Bike Rally.
I bet it makes no difference. I like the sound of the World Postie Bike Rally, though. Would be more exciting than the Commonwealth Games!

I reckon it might. Australia has always been seen as a safe pair of hands for hosting these kind of events, a safe bet.

Probably not so much now.

As long as the race is only on a Tuesday or every second Friday, otherwise there won't be a postie athlete in sight!

Just make sure they’re not the contractors or they wont show up at all and there will be a little red piece of paper saying “sorry we missed you, please pick up from…” sitting in his place on the start line.

You need to play totem tennis wearing thongs whilst holding a beer - trying not to whack kids in the head with the ball or racket!
Always played it in thongs, on hot days you ran the hose up through it, preservation of your beer was always paramount, kids learn the way the world works when they're around capable adults :)
